Abdullah disappointed over 0.1% growth but is not surprised

HUA HIN (Thailand): Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi hopes Malaysia’s gross domestic product for the first quarter of this year will still show positive growth.
Although the Prime Minister was disappointed with the 0.1% growth recorded in the fourth quarter of last year, Abdullah said he was not surprised.
“I know this is not due to the lack of effort on our part but due to pressures of the global economic crisis. We still registered very small growth and it does show that our effort to help the economy by providing the stimulus package given is slowly showing some good support.
“Otherwise, we would have suffered more because other countries are doing worse than us,” he told a press conference here on the sidelines of the Asean summit yesterday.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced yesterday that for the fourth quarter of last year, Malaysia’s GDP grew only 0.1% — the lowest growth since the third quarter of 2001 when growth was -0.4%.
Abdullah also said the RM7bil stimulus package announced in November had not really shown the results yet as it would take time.
He said it was not impossible to register growth as it depended on how big the mini budget to be revealed on March 10 would be.
“It will also depend on how efficient and effective the spending will be not only by the Government but that of the private sector as well.
“With the stimulus package to be announced in March, we have nine months and I hope the achievement will be better than what was shown in 2008,” Abdullah added.

tunku : i am surprised that pak lah is disappointed over the 0.01% growth as that is part of his "excellent" economic management when he was in charge of the finance ministry and of course as pm.half of the time he was sleeping.we know that it is global phenomena thing but still he has some hands in it too.it is due to lack of effort, administration, management and giving more to cronies and families which is denied by him. i wonder why the opposition now wants him to stay on as pm.they want to destroy malaysia together with this man.as for them with pak lah as pm, come next GE they will rule the country.

A dreamer who does not know anything about the economy... the feudal minds put him there as the PM and this is what we get. PM should be talking about how to overcome the problems, not leaning back and sigh...I'm disppointed. Anyway, we are going to see a more bleak scenario for the country. m not quite optimistic with whoever is going to take over, though. We need leaders with 'economic acumen' to face the present economic crisis. We had one and that was the brainy Mahathir. I see nobody after him among the Malays. Political bickerings should stop. Form a unity government and face the economic crisis. Forget our differences for now, as food on the table is more important than seeking power. Compromise, at least until the economy has recovered. The efforts all of us have put into making the country prosperous will soon vapourise if we cannot face the economic downturn. Factories are closing, investors are not coming and many have also left because of bad business. People are going to be unemployed. Crime rate is going to increase. Food price will go up. Money will become worthless. Our savings will mean nothing to us. A lot more. Politicians should think and come to a solution...

Opposition wants him to stay as PM, at least he just sleep and we can wake him up he will make decision but with Najib who is clueless and non committal and easily swayed and taken off track will make the nation even worst. Just look at his involvement in PERAK it is disaster and he lacks credibility and not thrustworthy.
