IGP: No excuse for cops to take bribes now

KUALA LUMPUR: With their bigger paycheques, policemen have absolutely no reason now to be tempted to accept bribes, said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan.
Musa warned that crooked cops would pay heavily.
He said severe punishment, including court action, would be taken against anyone in the force involved in corruption.
“If anyone in the force takes a bribe, he or she must be prepared to face the consequences.
“There is no help for anyone as this (taking a bribe) is wrong under the law. We mean business and immediate action will be taken if anyone is caught,” he said after attending a special gathering in conjunction with the Royal Malaysia Police's 200th year celebration for civilian staff working in the force, at Bukit Aman Wednesday.
Musa said that the pay rise would also ensure police personnel would not moonlight in their spare time.
“They will have no reason to say they will have to do outside work (to make ends meet) but instead pay more attention to their work now,” he said.

tunku : hope that with the salary increment, some of the police personnel will stop taking bribe.again i stress RM1000 is quite difficult to survive these days.if government really serious with corruption issues among our police force then they should get "good" salary. by this we'll have the best of our police personnel as everyone will want to be in the force.
