The bridge is on??

Lee’s invite to Abdullah starts new round of speculation

KUALA LUMPUR: Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has invited Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Badawi to Singapore and there is speculation that negotiations between the two countries on outstanding issues are likely to begin.
However, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar said yesterday the meeting between the two leaders in Langkawi recently was mainly to establish a mechanism for dialogue and interaction, and to look at other aspects of the relationship.
“The talks were just to break the ice,” he said during a press conference to announce the May 21-22 Helsinki Process Round Table on Effective Global Governance which Malaysia will host.
“Singapore was interested in being more involved in the area of economics. While outstanding issues need to be resolved, we need to find a different mechanism for that purpose,” said Syed Hamid.
Syed Hamid said the Government was happy with the idea of linking Malaysia’s monorail system with Singapore’s MRT network, as it would serve both sides well.
Asked whether the idea of another bridge link would be revived, he said the Government was interested in it because it would serve the interest of both countries in the long term.
On the development of the Iskandar Development Region in Johor, Syed Hamid said Malaysian’s own local authorities drove the project and that if Singapore wanted to participate or invest in it, it was welcome.

tunku : with singapore interest in IDR, anything is possible now.now i think singapore will agree for a "straight" bridge.only that they will still try to DEMAND things in order to agree, as usual and fools like as accept it.
