Selangor Govt Plans Housing Scheme For Young Couples

SHAH ALAM, May 23 (Bernama) -- The Selangor government plans to build cluster houses on the outskirts of towns and near industrial zones for young couples in the state.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo said the matter was being discussed by the state executive council and also with the financial institutions.
"If all goes well, the housing scheme will be implemented early next year," he told reporters after chairing the weekly state executive council meeting here today.
He said the terrace houses, expected to cost RM35,000 per unit and to be offered to Selangor-born citizens below the age of 45, would have three rooms but would lack some facilities like parking space.
"There won't be many roads because we want to maximise land usage, but the houses will be safe and practical," he added.
Mohamad Khir said district officers in the state had been instructed to identify suitable sites for the proposed housing scheme, adding that the government planned to build 5,000 units of such houses in a year and that the project was also aimed at addressing squatter problems in Selangor.
In another development, Mohamad Khir said the state government was drafting an insurance scheme for Selangor-born citizens above the age of 66 and the disabled.
Under the "Caring Insurance", upon the death of the insurance holder, the next of kin will receive RM1,000 for the funeral expenses and RM2,000 two weeks later," he added.
