Electricity tariffs should go down: Muhyiddin

KUALA LUMPUR: Electricity tariffs should be reviewed now that international fuel prices have plummeted, said International Trade and Industry Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
He said his ministry would hold discussions with Petronas, TNB and the Water, Energy and Communications Ministry on the matter.
TNB has said that its new tariff structure which took effect on July 1 last year was not dependent on oil prices but on that of gas and coal prices.
Energy, Water and Communications Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor had earlier said that tariff could not be reduced for now although the price of oil has come down, adding that peninsular Malaysia, electricity was generated mostly by using gas and coal, and not oil.
“The three main sources to generate electricity in the peninsula is 60% gas, 30% coal and 6% to 7% hydro power with the rest from other sources,” a TNB spokesman said earlier.

tunku : it is weird that when the petrol price goes up, tnb says that the tariff should go up but when it comes down then they says that the electricity is generated mostly by using gas and coal, and not oil.bravo TNB.don't expect any lower tariff from them as they are crying that they are losing money.

TNB must refocus its objective..incresing profits not by increasing selling price but increasing profits by reducing cost..find a way to do it because your market is 'monopoly' and your main shareholder is government..the people..

TNB is one of the company in Malaysia that perhaps can never go bankrupt since people are dependant on electricity.if we refuse to pay the bill, then there will be no electricity for us.

i welcome any price reduced on electricity tariffs.
