Azeez: Putera Umno never involved in politicking

KUALA LUMPUR: Putera Umno is a bureau under Umno Youth and is not a wing by itself, said Putera Umno chief Datuk Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim.
“Putera Umno is not a political wing but (it is) to approach (the younger generation) and instill good values, ideologies and an understanding of Umno,” he told reporters at his office here yesterday.
Abdul Azeez said there was no need to worry about corruption and money politics in Putera Umno as there were no contests or elections for its posts, as its leaders were picked by the national and state Umno Youth excos.
“Nevertheless, we will abide by whatever decision the Umno supreme council makes on Putera Umno,” he said expressing shock with Umno disciplinary board chairman Tengku Tan Sri Ahmad Rithauddeen’s radical views.
Abdul Azeez, who was defeated in the contest for the Baling parliamentary seat in the March 8 general election, said Umno performed poorly in the general election even with the combined strength of Putera and Puteri Umno.
“If we were abolished, it would further alienate the younger generation (from Umno),” he added.
In Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Puteri Umno vice-chief Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin said abolishing the wings would result in the party being shunned by the youth.
“In the last election, not many of our youths were supporting Umno. We need Putera and Puteri as a bridge between the party and the younger generation,” she said, adding that it made no sense to link money politics to just Putera and Puteri and not the main body.
Sabah Umno Youth chief Datuk Japlin Akim said dissolving the party’s wings would not end money politics.

tunku : we agree that by abolishing the wings will not stop money politics completely in umno as it happens more at the upper level. azeez is right that putera umno never involved in politicking but their boss is, all the time, trying to be hero and lost badly in the last general election.
