Anwar Is 'Play Acting', Says Rais

KUALA KLAWANG, Sept 19 (Bernama) -- Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said he believes Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is 'play acting' and wants the world to focus attention on him so that his sodomy case would be downplayed.
He said Anwar was an expert in raising new issues and playing down the old ones with his oratory skill in separating fact from fiction.
"I wish to tell newspaper readers and television viewers in the country that there have been so many stories about Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, let's just wait for his (sodomy) case in court," he told reporters when commenting on Anwar's proposal to move a vote of no-confidence against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi at a special session of the Dewan Rakyat.
Rais, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Jelebu, said this after giving away 'zakat' contributions amounting to RM50,000 from Amanah Raya Bhd to 250 poor people at the Dewan Budaya Jelebu in Simpang Pertang, near here Friday.
He said Anwar's plans to form a new government on Sept 16 had fizzled out and there was no physical evidence to support his claim as all the Barisan Nasional (BN) MPs had given their pledge to the chief whip and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak that they would not leave the BN.
"Except for Datuk Yong Teck Lee and his colleagues from the SAPP. But the SAPP had long wanted to leave the BN. And I don't consider this as an achievement for Datuk Seri Anwar," he said.
On the vote of no-confidence, Rais said this was not possible because no MP from the BN had defected to the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).
On the need to speed up the transition of power, he said this was appropriate because this was also the view of the majority, whether among the Umno Supreme Council (MT) members or the Umno division heads.
