KUANTAN, Sept 10 (Bernama) -- Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob Wednesday announced that he is not contesting the Umno Youth chief post in the party elections in December for fear that he may not be able to shoulder the responsibilities, should he win.The decision, he said, was made after thoroughly considering the matter for two weeks ago.
"There is a possibility that I will lose, winning is also not impossible, so I come to a conclusion not to contest for fear that I'll win.
"If I win, I'm afraid that I'll not be able to shoulder the responsibilities because of time... (but) energy, ideas and age-wise, I'm still strong," he told reporters after chairing the state executive council meeting here.
Adnan said his concern was not being able to concentrate on running the state and at the same time doing political work, if he wins the Umno Youth Chief post.
He said only two people -- Umno Youth deputy chief Khairy Jamaluddin and Jerlun Member of Parliament Datuk Mukhriz -- should vie for the movement's number one post.
On former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad rejoining Umno, Adnan, who is the party Pahang liaison chief, said he welcome the move.
"It is not that he has done a big mistake. He left the party on his own will. If he wants to rejoin, it will be much better," he added.
He said it would be better for Dr Mahathir to criticise and give his views to strengthen Umno from inside the party, according to party channels.
tunku : what a smart statement to back off when you know that you stand no chance at all."if i win,i'm afraid that i'll not be able to perform".you should have known it earlier.after this we hope that adnan won't be announcing that he's considering for vp post as he is afraid he can't perform well.so just concentrate with the MT post. adnan is saying only 2 people should vie for the youth chief, what about khir toyo then?

Khir Toyo? Not someone responsible for the defeat of Selangor to Pakatan Rakyat to be the UMNO Youth Head ... He will only teach UMNO youth members how to become a loser - to be arrogant to those who have voted you.

yeah,very smart saying by Adnan.a leader must know of not to show that he/she is weak or not up for the task.therefore making such statement is considered a smart move by Adnan.
perhaps he dont see Khir Toyo as the perfect candidate for the UMNO youth chief but rather naming KJ and Mukhriz as his choice.
bijak sungguh penggunaan ayat oleh Adnan.tapi memang patut juga dia undur diri sebab umur dia bukanlah boleh dikatakan dalam kalangan yang boleh menjadi ketua pemuda.untuk senior mungkin boleh.
apapun diharapkan Adnan terus komited pada kerja-kerjanya sekarang.tak guna jika banyak jawatan tetapi tidak dapat memenuhi semua keperluan jawaan tersebut.

Kj is smart enough to pacify Tuk Nan by telling him that, Umno youth will support him for Vice Presidency.
well, common sense alone will indicate that Tuk Nan will be humiliated if contested the Umno youth top post.
Well, i predicted that only KJ and Mukriz will fight for the Umno Youth leadership. KJ will still win...., the reason being UMNO Youth are mostly comprised of stupid and selfish young UMNO members who dont used their brain when electing leaders.
