Abdullah Focusing On Five Tasks Before Handing Over Power

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi told the Dewan Rakyat that he was concentrating on five tasks as spelt out in the Barisan Nasional (BN) election promises and the Ninth Malaysia Plan (9MP) before stepping down in 2010.
The prime minister said these included the development corridor initiatives, and enhancing the judicial system and government's service delivery system.
"There is no full stop in the struggle to build and improve the stature of the Malaysian race and a lot has to be done until 2010 and beyond that.
"I believe the significance and impact of any administration can be seen clearly after enough time is given. Any prime minister will not be satisfied (with his accomplishments) and will always strive for continuous improvement," he said in his written reply to Chow Kon Yeow (DAP-Tanjong) Monday.
Chow wanted to know the tasks Abdullah wishes to accomplish before he hands over power in 2010.
Abdullah said his first task had borne fruit, that was reducing the poverty level from 5.7 per cent in 2004 to 3.6 per cent last year and bridging the income gap between the rich and poor.
He said he also gave emphasis on improving the performance of government-linked companies (GLCs) where the net profit of 20 selected GLCs had soared 91 per cent higher than before the "GLC Transformation" in 2005.
"Thirdly, the effort to revitalise the agriculture and agro-based industry has created awareness on its strategic importance to the economy and national security," he said.
Abdullah said fourthly, he stressed on the government's delivery system which had shown vast improvement especially in the counter service.
He said his emphasis on human capital development was aimed at achieving development by enhancing knowledge, culture and mindsets of the people, including civil servants.

tunku : to complete the five tasks by 2010 is impossible.you need maybe 5-10 years to complete it.therefore pak lah should just resign now and let his successor to continue the tasks.poverty has always improve from year to year since independence.they should check 2008/2009 index, i think it will increase.government delivery system has changed but only on certain services, while corruption is at it best.any services you required need to pay extra (some call it over time)otherwise you just have to wait and wait.most important think is majority malaysian has lost confidence in pak lah, hence he should resign now.

of course the five tasks is impossible to be completed.that's why Pak Lah stressed that there's no full stop in the struggle to build and improve the stature of Malaysian race and a lot has to be done until 2010 and beyond that.progression is a continuing process.

poverty rates gonna reduced from time to time if there are measures taken to take on poverty.on govt, you just can expect everything to be fully fixed and better 100%.there will be some that need more push up.

yeah,Most Malaysian are already giving up hope that most doesnt counted as all.there's still some people who still have faith in him just as long as Pak Lah himself dont lose any hope.

I do not agree when you said the corruption is at its best. It was during TDM's leadership, but decreasing on Pak Lah's time.

If your point of asking Pak Lah to step down because of corruption, you are so wrong. Because if I were you, I would ask TDM to do so because his leadership time is more corrupted than Pak Lah is. Pak Lah is repairing every mistakes that TDM made, and laso some minors that he make as well.

You can't expect the affects of one's leadership to show in just a term. TDM has been leading for 22 years. Its not worth comparing them both.

Pak Lah knows well that the porjects will not be completed by the time he's suppose to resign, so his wants to pave it first completely so that the transition from him to the next Pm will be smooth. He knows damn well that there's no use to pass over the post if the projects will eventually bring trouble or come to a halt.
Besides the projects are more towards building the our 'inner strenght'. I don't see any harm in that.

what tasks is this man talking about. he is a man of no ideas. he is so desperate that he is now making use of a man's celebrated posterior to campaign in permatang pauh. when DSAI talks economy and standard of living, he is desperately banking on a man's posterior to get votes. what a shame. this 'posterior' issue has backfired. no one seems to believe what pak lah is saying. the world is laughing at us. why can't he talk more sense to win the hearts of the people? no, he is not capable. the people are running away from BN in droves now...

how about 50 reasons why ANWAR cannot become the prime minsiter by Khalid Jafri in 1998++ which is now being detain in ISA? I bet which are even better...

No one believes in what Pak Lah says is because we ourselves did believe in him.

Dont' blame his unpopularity based on his action which unfavours you, but might favor most of the public out there.

He may not be stern and autocratic like TDM, but his approach towards the public is more on openess of democracy. Or else people like karpal signh nor ANWAR would not have the least chance of critising the government, instead ended up in ISA detention like TDM does previously.

Despite of some people voicing loud to urge him step down, he is willing to do it so but must first make the platforms smooth for the next candidates of the PM. Can't you all see in that point?

I used to believe that ANWAR has done the coorect thing of tumbling the federal government and create a new one , but now I change my mind. He is just a crazy-power person who seeks for his dream position, PM. Nothing else matters than that, nor do the serve of public's need.

I wonder then is the public giving government a lesson for being too comfortable in the administration for 50 years or they are bored of BN's ruling? The answer is that they only want changes which require better serving needs for the them; they don't care if BN or PR wins but just if either party is willing to fulfill their needs, nothing else matters.

but I think the BN has learned their lesson by receiving big defeat by the previous election. The efforts they possess to change just like the the citizen needs is obvious. So now AAB still had his time left to focus on 5 tasks before handling over the power as he promised in 2010.

If you agree that PM has been irresponsible, did nothing since his appointment as PM except to exploit for the Nation’s wealth for his family and extended family self interest, then one would discard PM’s noble intentions to do what he needs to by mid 2010 is nothing more than the grandest bluff of the country’s history. A perpetual failure of all sorts, PM will continue doing more harm to the country while he protects and safeguard his family’s fortunes from falling into the hands of the bankers, Alongs and the law.

if pak lah is doing well now, i am sure bn will wins permatang pauh, its his home state after all. all the reform will make rakyat loves him and make bn wins permatang pauh. if bn lose permatang pauh, then pak lah should dispose himself in garbage bin.
