Some 300 more members of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) in the Padang Serai parliamentary constituency today quit the party and applied to join the MIC.
The group followed in the footsteps of more than 200 PKR and DAP members who had done the same thing two weeks ago.
The former PKR members, from Kampung Padang, Taman Bunga Raya and Ladang Victoria, pledged their support for the Barisan Nasional (BN) at the Kampung Padang polling district centre in Padang Serai near here.
Kedah MIC chairman S. Ananthan, who is the BN candidate for the Lunas state seat in the 13th general election, accepted the membership application forms handed over by the group's representative, Nagor Mira Kamal Abdullah, 55.
Also present at the event were the BN candidate for Padang Serai Datuk Heng Seai Kie, former assemblyman for Lunas Mohd Razhi Mohd Salleh and former Padang Serai PKR branch head Hamid Othman.
Nagor Mira said they were convinced that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak would be able to take the country's development to even greater heights.
"Datuk Najib does not make empty promises but fulfils pledges, more so for the benefit of the low-income people who most appreciate it, but the Pakatan Rakyat government in Kedah did not fulfil the many promises it had made," he said.
One of the PKR members who joined the MIC, Sarjeet Singh, 51, said he was a pioneer in the Padang Serai PKR and had seen the PKR influence in the constituency waning.
Kampung Padang/Ladang Victory MIC branch head M. Periasamy, 62, said more Indians in and around Kampung Padang were convinced that only the BN could help them.
