KUALA LUMPUR: Umno supreme council member Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim, who was the last to qualify for the vice-presidential race, believes he can win if money politics did not come into play.
Rais said he qualified only at the 11th hour because he was not involved in buying nominations.
“As you know, I was the last coach at the station. This is because I truly didn’t succumb to the game that most people play,
“I do not have the resources and I do not want to be in that category. I won’t pinpoint anybody because it is not in our culture to do so.
“That is the job for the enforcement people,’’ he said after presenting a keynote address on “Malay Interests in History and Legislation” here yesterday.
The Foreign Minister, who received 26 nominations to make the cut for the VP race, believed there were many in Umno who were ready to shun money politics.
“Money politics (in Umno) is already public knowledge and the sooner it is dealt with, the better.
“I hope something is done quickly.
“I have faith that Umno will become strong again. But if the leaders continue to buy votes, I can say that Umno would lose power in three years,” he said, stressing that if the party did not realise that its credibility was on the rocks, it would collapse.
tunku : i hope rais has the proof otherwise nazri will be mad again and will tell him to shut up,but i don't think nazri will say anything to rais as he will only say it to tun mahathir.coming back to rais , i think he deserve to be one of the vice president.

All the talking and telling is useless unless one presented evidances. Do come clean with this Rais, if you have UMNO's best interest at heart.
Don't simply pass it to someone else to do it and 'hope' UMNO will miraclously 'healed' from money politics.
kudos tu Rais for managing to qualify for the VP contest.if really Rais qualify without any money politics involved then a round of applause also to him.
money politics will only just ruin.like what Rais said that there are plenty of UMNO followers ready to shun money politics.i hope they meant it and work to the max to solve this problem.
we only hear until now UMNO leaders talk and talk about money politics and how they despise it.then who the heck that actually practise such "custom"?
other thing is that they only talk without any measure to curb this internal problem of UMNO.talking is cheap.action is better.less talk and more action please.
