Arranged Meetings Good For Candidates, Members -- Muhyiddin

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 31 (Bernama) -- Umno Vice-President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on Friday described the Supreme Council's decision to arrange campaign meetings between aspiring candidates in Umno's polls and party members as a good one.
He said such meetings should be taken by the candidate as an opportunity to meet members and avoid unhealthy campaigning methods.
Muhyiddin said Umno's Management Committee would also come up with guidelines for the meetings.
"If we do not campaign for the election, the people won't get to know us. This is provided for in our ethics guidelines. The Supreme Council was just deciding on how it should be done as the campaigning will run through until March," he said after attending Umno's Supreme Council meeting at the party headquarters here Friday.
Muhyiddin, who is contesting the Umno Deputy President's post, said if such meetings were not allowed, the candidates would have problems in their campaigns.
Meanwhile, Umno Youth chief Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, when approached by reporters after the meeting, said party leaders were neutral as far as the candidates were concerned as it was up to grassroots to decide who they wanted to lead the party.
"The elections this time round clearly shows the grassroots want to be heard and as such there will be no endorsement for any candidates from the leaders," he said.
Umno's polls are scheduled to be held in march next year. The ongoing nomination process for the key posts will end on Nov 9.

tunku : this is one of the way to help the candidates in campaigns and we want the grassroots to decide who they want as their leader.we hope grassroots will not accept cash/bribe from the candidates who bribes. candidates who bribes are sponsored by some groups and when these candidates wins, they have to repay the sponsorer. they won't be clean leaders as they will abuse their position and power to help those who sponsored them.so stay away from money politics and these kind of leaders if you really want your party to survive.
