Show of support for ISA

KUALA LUMPUR: Islamic non-governmental organisations, heritage associations and Malay cultural organisations have got together under the Related Bodies Cooperation Network (Pewaris) and will go on a roadshow next month to urge various quarters to cease playing up racial issues.
The decision was made following a closed-door meeting of the coalition of 32 Muslim non-governmental organisations yesterday.
Vice-chairman Rahimudin Mat Harun said the coalition felt an urgent need to ask people not to raise racial issues.
Following the meeting, Pewaris members marched to the Jalan Tun Razak police station and lodged six reports.
Rahimudin said the reports were directed at those who spoke out against the Internal Security Act (ISA) and the fatwa against tomboys.
The reports were also directed against the Hindu Rights Action Force and those who had been questioning Malay rights.
Rahimudin said Pewaris was also in the midst of preparing a memorandum on these issues to be submitted to the home minister and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for a review.
Pewaris also urged the government to retain the ISA to prevent undesirable elements from threatening the country's harmony.
"Those who stirred up racial sentiments should be punished through the act to ensure that the country's peace and harmony is maintained," said Rahimudin.

tunku : ISA is still very much relevant to Malaysia and we can't just abolish it. without it, our country will be in chaos.anybody can just simply do anything without fear and above all the we can't escape racial tense.even other countries which have been condemning us had started using it. our opposition always look upon singapore,usa etc, there are using it too.
