Umno Veterans Want To Be Wing Of Party

IPOH, Nov 14 (Bernama) -- Umno Malaysia Veterans on Friday approved a resolution seeking its recognition as a wing of the party.
Its chairman, Tan Sri Tajuddin Ali, said the body was a political entity which championed the struggle of the Malays and helped to empower Muslims in the country.
"We urge the Umno Supreme Council not to isolate the veterans but to give us recognition similar to that accorded to the other wings such as Puteri, Youth and Wanita because we also struggle in the name of Umno," he told reporters at the conclusion of the annual general meeting of Umno Malaysia Veterans, here.
At the two-day meeting, Umno Malaysia Veterans proposed the setting up of Umno election committees at the grassroots to conduct the party's election process at that level.
Tajuddin said this was to help overcome various problems faced by the party divisions and branches during their respective meetings.
He also said that among the other resolutions was one asking the party to establish a fund in support of the Utusan Malaysia newspaper because of its boldness in raising the spirit of nationalism of the Malays.
The meeting also passed a resolution seeking the formulation of legislation to prevent youths from being influenced by certain quarters which wanted to see the downfall of Muslims.
"We also proposed that religious education for Muslim students be stepped up from the pre-school to the tertiary level," he said.

tunku : i don't think this is a good idea to include the veterans as a wing of the party.as the members can still be in the main body.the only thing is we hope the veterans will be given a role as advisors to the party.umno should set up an advisory council instead to advise the party.

UMNO dah nak jadi bubur asyura atau bubur lambok, elok sangatlah pelbagai bahan mentah ditambah untuk menjadinya lebih sempurna, lebih mudah untuk dikapankan dari puteri sampailah ke veterannya.
