SABAK BERNAM, Nov 8 (Bernama) -- Umno Youth candidate Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo today called on the leadership to allow the use of information technology (IT) when campaigning for party elections.
"The ban on IT like short messaging service (SMS), voice mail, multimedia messaging service (MMS) and blogging will only scupper efforts to make Umno leaders IT savvy," he told reporters at the Sungai Besar Umno division delegates meeting here today.
"Blogging and SMS which were used during the general election should also be allowed during Umno elections," said the Sungai Besar Umno division chief.
Khir who is also Umno supreme council member said this would be good as candidates with blogs could use them to get closer to members.
"It should be encouraged. I have to ask Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (Umno vice president) why we cannot use SMS and MMS.
"We cannot meet, SMS is also out, what are we to do now? he asked.
The former Selangor menteri besar said members should be exposed to IT during party elections if not it would lag behind the opposition who had used IT widely during the general election campaign.
On his candidacy to contest the Umno Youth chief post, Khir said he wanted to bring change as the wing had not seen much change since the general election particularly efforts to attract youths who were more inclined towards the opposition.
tunku : umno should allow the use of IT in it's election especially blogging. Blogging should not be disallowed.may be sms can creat so much craps but blogging will be by the candidates themselves.the members can go online and surf the candidates blogs to know them better.
