Shahrizat Appeals To Rafidah To Consider Earlier Transfer Of Power

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 9 (Bernama) -- Wanita Umno vice-head Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil is asking Wanita head Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz to consider bringing forward the date of power transfer in the movement to be in line with the party elections in March.
She said the request was made based on current developments in Umno.
"I respect the planned transfer of power for Wanita Umno as announced by Tan Sri (Rafidah) on August 4 for me to head Wanita Umno (after Rafidah steps down in June next year).
"But I am now asking for Tan Sri's wisdom and cooperation to consider the transfer of power in Wanita to be at the same time with that for the parent Umno body and the Youth and Puteri wings at the Umno general assembly in March, that means three months earlier than June as planned," she said in a statement here today.
Shahrizat said when Rafidah announced the power transition plan in August, the general assembly had been scheduled for this December while the transfer of power from Umno president Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to his deputy Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak was planned for 2010.
However, the general assembly was postponed to March next year and the transfer of power from Abdullah to Najib also brought forward to March.
"Tan Sri (Rafidah) had announced the transfer of power in Wanita Umno to ensure that the process would be smooth and that stability in the movement would not be threatened if there were to be contests for the Wanita head and vice-head posts," Shahrizat said.
Rafidah has so far received 116 nominations for the Wanita chief post and Shahrizat, 73. For the vice-chief post, Shahrizat has obtained 113 nominations.
Based on the nominations received todate and if there was consensus among all concerned, she said Rafidah's wish for no contests for the top two posts in Wanita could be achieved.
The Wanita Umno executive committee will hold its meeting at the party headquarters here Monday.

tunku : with more than 70 divisions wants shahrizat to be wanita chief, i guess rafidah should think it over, after all it is just 3 months earlier than the transition date.enough is enough rafidah, let the party move on.you are a wise lady and i believe you will act like one(i hope so).

By agreeing to already outdated power transition Shahrizat directly concured to the following:
1. Betraying the grassroots need for change.
2. Allowing Rafidah to appoint all states leaders as she wanted.
3. Allowing wanita without No.2 leader elected or as proposed by the grassroots for 1 term.
4. Disrespect to the democratic process.

It look like most of UMNO leaders want to avoid "clash of ideas" which is the basic principle of democratic process in the name of unity.

It look like our UMNO leaders would invent various illusions to avoid from being challenged in party election in the name of strengthening the party.

Indirectly UMNO leaders is slowly killing our party in order to keep clinging on to the position that they love so much.

Open competition, no quota and clash of ideas whether we like it or not actual are ingredients for reviving our party UMNO. Sadly to note our UMNO leaders are the first to become obstacles to this reviving process.

It is about time our leaders to go back to basic to ensure the Malay voters coming back to support us coming this PRU13.

Shouldn't the "earlier transfer of power" also applied to the top?
