Ex-prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad will back former rival Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah for the post of Umno president against incumbent Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, said a veteran Umno member.Former Umno secretary-general Sanusi Junid told Malaysiakini that Mahathir has decided to support the Gua Musang MP, who once challenged him for the Umno presidency and the country's premiership but did not succeed.
"I can confirm he is endorsing Tengku Razaleigh," said Sanusi, a close ally of the 82-year-old Mahathir.
But Sanusi declined to confirm if Mahathir, who still wields enormous influence in Umno, would rejoin the party.
English-language daily Star reported today that the former premier had been persuaded to return to Umno, after resigning in a huff three months ago.
Mahathir, who has fallen out with his chosen successor Abdullah, is pushing for leadership change at Umno, the controlling party in the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition.
Star also reported that International Trade and Industry Minister MuhyiddinYassin was among those who had attended the meeting with Mahathir.
Rumours are swirling that Tengku Razaleigh might team up with Muhyiddin as his Number Two, to take on Abdullah and deputy premier Najib Abdul Razak in the Umno elections due in December.
tunku : if najib is so afraid then kuli and muhyiddin combination would be great.i guess this combination of kuli and muhyiddin can bring back hopes for umno and bn than pak lah and najib combination which can only worsen umno and bn.

najib terlalu mandom dan lembab. dia tak mampu utk melawan anwar and pakatan rakyat dgn byk skandal mengelilinginya.eloklah kuli ambik alih kepimpinan umno.
wish umno members at division level will give enough nominations to kuli(if they have guts to do so).if they don't than they are asking for destruction for umno.
this is what we called politics.no suprises that once they both are enemies and now they team up together.
Ku Li used to go against Mahathir but not succeeded.
Mahathir really gonna use his reputation to the pinnacle to gain supports for his son and his people.no question about it.Dr.M is highly respected in UMNO.
but i'm postive that people who arent in favor of Mahathir arent going to give up easily.

Ku Li pernah bermati-matian menentang Dr.M sehinggakan wujudnya "Semangat 46".tetapi hayat parti itu tidak lama.Ku Li ini kita boleh nampak dari dulu dia memang inginkan jawatan tertinggi didalam negara - perdana menteri.
tetapi kini ada ura-ura untuk Ku Li dan Mahathir bekerjasama.tapi saya kerjasama itu bukan kerjasama "kosong" semata-mata.ini dunia politik maka pasti kerjasama itu ada "isinya" memandangkan Ku Li dan Mahathir pernah menjadi musuh.
Firasat saya mengatakan TDM akan berjuang dari luar kerana agak sukar untuk memikirkan bahawa Jawatankuasa Tertinggi UMNO akan menerima kemasukan semula TDM.

He in fact is contributory to a lot of bad name to UMNO thanks to Mongolia..
