KUCHING, Sept 16 (Bernama) -- The absence of the DAP, a member of the Pakatan Rakyat (PR), at a gathering organised by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) here to celebrate Malaysia Day was due to certain differences at the state-level, PKR state liaison chief Dominique Ng said today.
Ng, who is also Padungan state assemblyman, said it was DAP Sarawak's prerogative if they chose to stay outside the opposition alliance in the state although the Sarawak National Party (SNAP) had joined it and more parties were expected to be part of the coalition.
"I still hope whatever differences we have, we can still resolve them amicably," he told reporters after the gathering at the Padang Merdeka here, which was attended by 200 people, including PKR Information chief Tian Chua and PKR Sarawak chairman, Wan Zainal Wan Sanusi.
No untoward incident was reported at the event, being held for the fourth consecutive year by the opposition to commemorate the formation of Malaysia as a nation, where the Jalur Gemilang (national flag) and Sarawak flag were hoisted and the proclamation of Malaysia recited.
Referring to a statement by DAP state secretary Chong Chieng Jen that the party had reservations in joining the alliance because it believed a handful of Sarawak PKR leaders had ulterior motives, he said it was to the people's interest if the opposition parties could work together.
Chong's statement was in defiance of an agreement endorsed during a party committee meeting chaired by DAP state chairman Wong Ho Leng in Sibu on Sunday that all would cooperate with PKR in forming the alliance with certain conditions.
