'I Will Decide Whether To Contest Or Otherwise', Says Abdullah

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 18 (Bernama) -- Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said today that whatever decision concerning his position as Umno president and the transition of power will be made by him personally.
The Prime Minister said whatever changes would be discussed together with his deputy, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
"Because the (divisional) meetings have not started, and whatever things that I need to do, whatever action that I will take, it's all up to me.
"I will talk to (Deputy Prime Minister) Datuk Seri Najib (Tun Razak), there's no need to repeat," he told reporters after chairing the Umno Supreme Council meeting here.
Abdullah was asked whether he would defend his position this time around as the Umno divisional meetings would begin soon.
The Prime Minister reiterated that whatever changes that might be made in the process of power transition would be discussed with Najib and the decision would be forwarded to the Supreme Council.
Abdullah also said that the power transition was not explained again at the Supreme Council meeting today.
"I did not explain again. I just said that I'm aware, I'm putting my ears close to the ground," he said.
Yesterday, Abdullah was reported as saying that although he and Najib were committed to the power transition planned for 2010, his retirement could take place earlier than that.

tunku : i guess deep in his heart he wants to resign asap but too much stake to rescue before leaving.he need to patch up all the loopholes before he leaves.i hope this time pak lah will take out the cotton bud in his ears when he put them close to the ground.

i think he's not ready to give up his position.not just yet.there's lot more to be done.eventhough his position is at stake,he still continue to keep working on matters that he should concentrate upon before the power transition in 2010.

let's hope the best for PM.

Beliau masih lagi PM. Apapun keputusannya kita kena hormati.

Tunggu je lah. Biar dia buat keputusan sendiri. kalau dia nak lepas jawatan pun, dia kena pastikan penggantinya nanti betul2 mampu, takkan nak main lepas tangan macam tu je. Esok kalau orang yang ada pun tak dapat jalankan tugas dengan baik, huru hara juga nanti.

no, he will not leave too soon. he will stay on possibly as an opposition in parliament or probably a lame PM. to him this is a matter of "maruah diri" or false pride. quite natural among all human beings. a lesson to all is - quit when you are still on top and you will live respected by all. when you quit when you are already down, that makes life to live on a miserable one.... sometimes, I use to wonder....what happiness do these politicians have in life other than falsely inflating their ego. good that there is death and the hereafter. life in the hereafter is for sure a harmonious one. let's work towards that. make this ramadhan an auspicious one to reflect on this.
