PM in pow-wow with DPM

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi had a four-eyed meeting with his deputy Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak for over four hours to discuss the country’s current political situation, including the transition plan.
It was learnt that Abdullah summoned Najib at 10am and the meeting lasted until about 2pm.
Sources said the Prime Minister wanted to know if Najib was still in support of the plan that the two men had agreed to in another four-eyed meeting in Shah Alam in July.
His deputy told Abdullah that he was still in support of the plan provided it had the support of the party’s grassroots.
This is the second time the two men had met in the past 72 hours. They met for about three hours on Saturday when they also discussed the same subjects.
On Friday, Najib said the transition of power in Umno must be decided by delegates at the party’s division meetings which would convene after Hari Raya Puasa.
In July, Abdullah and Najib agreed to the transition plan for the Prime Minister to hand over power to his deputy in 2010. The plan was also endorsed by the party’s supreme council later.
Umno vice-president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin last week said that Abdullah should rethink the transition plan as many people felt 2010 was too far off.
Officials for both the Prime Minister and his deputy confirmed the meetings took place, but declined to give details.
Sources close to Abdullah said the Umno chief obtained an assurance from Najib that he still supported the transition plan, but Najib aides claimed that their boss wanted the plan to get the approval of the grassroots.
The two men also discussed the ISA crackdown and Najib’s inaugural address at the United Nations General Assembly next week.
Najib is scheduled to visit several countries in the Gulf before heading to New York.

tunku : the spin master tried hard to spin that najib gave pak lah assurance that he still support the transition plan but actually he said he agrees with the approval of divisions.i am sure if najib has the gut , he had told off pak lah to go but knowing najib, he has no guts.he still trying to play safe.

there are few UMNO leader that now opposed to the idea of power transition in 2010.i think people can see clearly see the reason why that few UMNO leaders rejected the transition plan only recently.

it's because the nomination of UMNO high post is just around the corner therefore they need to sound as "trustworthy" and "dependable" in order to gain support from the rest of the UMNO members.any UMNO leaders that can gain many supports may easily be nominated for the high post contest.

so now it's just the matter or pushing the now high post leader to the wall and in the same trying to make a step forward.

it's not really the improvement of UMNO that they wanna achieve.it's more towards the position.
