Umno Will Use Cyberspace To Attract Young Voters

PONTIAN, April 25 (Bernama) -- Umno information chief Ahmad Maslan said the party is aware of the important role of the new media in moulding the political minds of the young and will use cyberspace to attract voters.
"The new media has been very effective in influencing the young politically.
We need to find new ways to engage the young in cyberspace.
"It must be done fast as studies showed that the internet has played an important role in influencing young voters," he said after opening the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meeting of Sekolah Rendah Ayer Baloi here Saturday.
Ahmad said he would be meeting the Umno wings, academicians and non-governmental organisations (NGO) to find effective ways to engage the young in cyberspace.
The Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department said Umno would continue to hold meetings, talks and seminars and use the print and electronic media to disseminate information.
"We will use unconventional ways that will be appreciated by the people to show that we are here to serve," said Ahmad who spent a night in the home of a Felda settler in Kulaijaya last week.
He did not discount possibility that key performance indicators (KPI) be used on the party information machinery just like that implemented for ministers and deputy ministers.
"Umno information bureau at branch, division, state and national level may be asked to list their programmes for the month and year.
"I will also seek the view of former information chiefs Tan Sri Muhammad Taib, Tan Sri Yusof Noor and Datuk Mustapa Mohamed," he added.

tunku : this is where umno should really put extra effort and capture the cyberspace to attract the new generation. they can be voters or none voters, umno must reach them and explain to them the party struggles and also most important thing is to counter the allegations and lies spread by the oppositions.bn must have a great team for cyberspace. bn is way behind in cyberspace compare to opposition and that is the major factor where they gain lots of votes during last election.bn must engage people who are specialize in this asap.hope this new information chief of umno will make great changes with greater impact.

This is what the young voters have learned from the cyberspace so far:
1. Transformation is not tally with the action by our Prime Minister Najib in appointing new cabinet members.
2. Leaders that have been rejected by the delegates during the last Umno General Meeting have been accepted by Prime Minister Najib.
3. Leaders that have been rejected by the voters have been accepted by Prime Minister Najib.
4. That is against the concept of Cabinet for the peoples. Leaders that have been rejected by either the people or the voters should just being use to contribute in strengthening the party. They should not be given position in cabinet.
5. Prime Minister Najib should just gather and utilize all leaders that have been voted by the delegates (UMNO) and the peoples (Malaysian).
6. Prime Minister Najib had missed the oppurtunity to walk the talk as seen by our young voters.
7. Whether we like it or not the young voters mostly act on their own personal interest which is to see a better government and smart leader.
8. Prime Minister Najib make a wrong move in declaring an abolishment of 30% for Bumiputra in sub-sector regardless of reasons given.
9.It is plain and simple you do not give up of what you have regardless, you must create new oppurtunities.
10. Indirectly our Prime Minister Najib is not showing UMNO strength in all of his action so far from day 1 of his premiership.
11. Hope Prime Minister Najib would realize that still 1001 things he could do for 1 Malaysia other that "giving out" of what we Bumiputra has.
12. Just remember we bumiputra has so little for our Prime Minister Najib to subscribe to this kind of idealogy.
13. We want to see our Prime Minister Najib outlive Pakatan Rakyat expectation in leading our nation.
14.So better lead on a new road in delivering this 1 Malaysia concept to us. For sure nothing would be given up in order to reach the destination (1 Malysia).
15. Good example Tun created new sector (Proton) for bumiputra. That sector (Proton, Produa, Naza, Hicom etc) is now enough to be share with non-bumiputra. It is not stealing for one group and giving to another group. Tun totally created a new sector. Fair and square for everybody.
16. Our Prime Minister Najib better start changing his approach in giving out of so little that Bumiputra has or else we would keep losing support from our own grassroots silently.
