Shahidan Wants Muhyiddin To Helm Perlis Umno

KANGAR, April 13 (Bernama) -- Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim on Monday proposed that Umno deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin take over from him as chairman of the Perlis Umno Liaison Committee to resolve bickering in the state Umno if it was felt that it was no longer necessary for him to hold the post.
Shahidan, who is the former menteri besar of Perlis, said appointing the Umno menteri besar or chief minister as chairmen of the state Umno liaison committees was not the best solution.
"I will abide by the wishes of the party leadership but I also have my views regarding the matter," he told reporters.
Yesterday, Perlis Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Md Isa Sabu reportedly agreed with a suggestion by Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam that the post of chairman of state Umno liaison committees should rightly be held by the menteris besar or chief ministers.
"If he says all menteris besar and chief ministers are eligible to be the chairman of the respective state Umno liaison committees, I feel that all chairmen of state Umno liaison committees are eligible to be the menteris besar (or chief ministers)," Shahidan said.
Shahidan, who is Arau Umno Division head, said he was ashamed that there were political problems in a small state such as Perlis, and alleged that certain quarters in Umno caused a split among members in the hope of garnering support in a fragmented political environment.
Asked about his statement that he was surprised at the absence of representation from Perlis in the new cabinet announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, Shahidan said he supported the new cabinet but would appeal for representation from Perlis.
Perlis achieved a major victory in the general election last year and it would only be appropriate for the state to have representation in the cabinet, though this was not mandatory, he said.

tunku : shahidan should follow the footstep of idris jusoh , he resigned from his state party post once he's no longer the mb of terengganu. by right shahidan should have resign long time ago.shahidan said that all state chairmen should be appointed as mb, we agree but it is up to the sultan or raja to appoint them, not the party. in your case the raja did not appoint you.it is high time for shahidan to say goodbye to active politics as the good days of politic are over for him. he should concentrate in heading the sports associations that he is handling currently. as for perlis major victory said by shahidan, they have only 3 parliament members and 2 of them were the past ministers and one of them is shahidan's brother. may be in the next election they should put some new faces.
let perlis mb take over as state umno chief and muhyiddin should take over kedah umno leadership which is more vital.
