Kelantan MB calls for NEP type of programmes for southern Thailand

KOTA BARU: Kelantan's Mentri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat has called on the Thai Government to consider introducing a model similar to Malaysia's New Economic Policy (NEP) in a bid to resolve the unrest in southern Thai.
The Kelantan Mentri Besar said the NEP is a proven model in bringing about income parity and national intergration.
The NEP is aimed at helping bumiputras to come up in the economic and other fields.
Nik Abdul Aziz, who is also the opposition the PAS spiritual adviser, said a similar NEP model in southern Thai can check the grievances of the Thai Muslims who claim to be discriminated by the predominantly Thai Buddhist.
"Kelantan shares a special bond with our neighbouring Thailand as we have relatives and friends across the border. In markets at Kelantan, our traders pride themselves in selling Thai agriculture products as they know it was manufactured by a commumity who share the same ancestry and religious ties," he said after receiving a courtesy call by the new Thai Consul-General Surapon Petch-vra.

tunku : this is joke, sometimes in their ceramah, pas will say they will scrap this NEP thing if they come to power, same like what anwar is saying right now in his ceramahs.but now this nik aziz admitting that NEP is a good thing.

Anwar said so. Some PAS leaders might have said so but never before I heard Nik Aziz said NEP is bad, need to be scrapped etc

This is the first time I ever read about Nik Aziz commenting on the NEP - which is to him, good !

if the party president had said it so that means the party stands on that issue.you mean to say that in pas there is no consensus.
