Struggling For Race's Rights Does Not Mean Umno Is Racial: Shafie Apdal

CYBERJAYA, July 23 (Bernama) -- Umno should not be seen as racial party just because it struggles for Malay rights, said party vice-president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.
The Rural and Regional Minister said instead the struggle for one's own race was a demand and need for each person on earth.
"Just that we should see that when we struggle for our rights and agenda, we should not set aside or deny the needs of others," he told reporters after chairing a meeting of members of the Rural and Regional Development Exco (Mexclub) here Thursday.
Mohd Shafie said based on that policy Umno affliated with other parties on the Barisan Nasional platform to ensure that the welfare of other races was looked after.
"But not all we say about Malay's needs is racial, how can it be...do not view that when Umno struggles for Malay needs it is racial, it is our responsibility as Malays to help our community," he said.
He was asked to comment on the allegation by former minister in the prime minister's department Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, now a Parti Keadilan Rakyat member, that Umno was a racial party.

tunku : if it is the malay than it's always racial but if other races demands then it will never be racial.i wonder why? as for zaid ibrahim, he made hundred of millions out of umno and suddenly he realize umno is a racial party.what a disgusting man.may be too much drinking lately.
