No Need To Be Disappointed With Manik Urai Result - Muhyiddin

TRONOH, July 14 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said Barisan Nasional (BN) need not be disappointed with the result of the Manik Urai by-election.
Muhyiddin said though BN lost, the result showed a significant and positive increase in support for BN.
"I believe the people are aware of the values in the leadership of the Prime Minister and the changes that the country has already undergone," he told reporters after opening the 52nd national-level Quran Reciters' Assembly at the Dewan Canselor, Universiti Teknologi Petronas, here, tonight.
Muhyiddin said the result will inspire him and his colleagues in BN to work harder and bring about winds of change in the future.
He added that a post-mortem would be conducted as usual to study and analyse details and what BN need to do to improve.
The Deputy Prime Minister also denied that BN's defeat in Manik Urai as a sign that voters had rejected the political changes and development that BN had brought about.
Muhyiddin also congratulated PAS for the victory and thanked Kelantan BN election director Datuk Mustapa Mohamed and the entire BN election machinery for their hard work to ensure BN's victory.
PAS retained the Manik Urai state seat after its candidate Mohd Fauzi Abdullah defeated BN's Tuan Aziz Tuan Mat by a narrow margin of 65 votes.
Mohd Fauzi, 50, polled 5,348 votes while Tuan Aziz, 39, obtained 5,283 votes but the victory was a far cry from the party's 1,352-vote majority it obtained in the 2008 general election.
The result was announced by Returning Officer Adnan Hussin at the Dewan Petra, SMK Sultan Yahya Petra 1, here at 9.05pm.

tunku : i am sure to lose by 65 votes its a disappointment. anyway, it was great fight and everyone knows that bn did well although they lost as pas was confident of getting a majority of 2000 votes. we hope muhyiddin will give some extra incentive to manik urai voters though bn lost as they have to appreciate the 5283 votes they got.as good will build the bridge for them.credits to tok pa (mustafa mohamad).

I would suggest that BN fullfil its promises to the people of Batang Ai since it won there. To date, it remains status quo ante bellum.

What i have learned and hoped from Manek Urai outcomes:

1. Do not attacked personal creditial of the candidate.
Especially when the voters it self mostly also as average as the Pas candidate in term or education.

2. Mustapa unwillingness to fight for Kelantan right for 5% gas royalty.

3. Do not abandoned Manik Urai as our BN voters remaining in Manik Urai. Regardless deliver our promises as if we won in Manek Urai.

4. Our implementation of our promises in Manek Urai would change to additional votes in Manek Urai coming this PRU13 for sure.

5. Hopefully UMNO leaders in Manek Urai is not riching them self with the inflow of the development project if our Premier Najib decided so. This would defeated the purpose of the development in Manek Urai.

6. Reaching the grassroot in Manek Urai from now on till PRU13 especially to the independent voters.

7. UMNO Manek Urai should keep playing their roles till PRU13 in bringing development in Manek Urai people at par with national level.
8. Our UMNO national leaders should not forgetting Manek Urai people from now on till PRU13 in order to keep securing more votes from fence sitter voters.

9. A good time for UMNO and Pas to proceed further with the proposal for UNITY government. Now we have a 50:50 chance for a talk.

10. If Pas could collaborate with DAP i do not see why PAS could not collaborate with UMNO. UMNO is their same as brother and sister in flesh and blood as a muslim.
