KOTA BAHARU, July 23 (Bernama) -- PAS spiritual advisor Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat Thursday admitted that holding a candle at a memorial came under a "grey area" in Islam but was of the opinion that it was not forbidden (haram).
The Kelantan Menteri Besar said it was not contrary to Islam if the person doing it (holding the candle) was able to differentiate between a religious and non-religious function.
"As for me, when a person of the Hindu faith or a Buddhist invites me to attend a function, I will first clarify whether it is a religious or cultural one. I will decline if it is a religious one," he told reporters here today.
He was asked to comment on the statement by PAS Ulama Council head Datuk Harun Taib that the practice was a grey matter in Islam and it would have been better if former Perak menteri besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Nizar Jamaluddin had not held a candle for the memorial held in Ipoh on Friday for Teoh Beng Hock, who was found dead on the fifth floor Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam on Thursday.
tunku : at last this tok guru gave his "fatwa" on the candle light vigil issue.exactly same like what his hatchet man(husam musa)said earlier.i wonder why harun taib the chief of pas dewan ulama had different opinion on this matter than tok guru's. as for nik aziz it's understood, anything pas do is HALAL and if it was Umno who did that, he had issued the haram fatwa long time ago.still wonder which kitab he read.

Good one Tunku. Anything that UMNO does, it is Unislamic and haram.
Everything PAS is in, it is halal and people will get a ticket to heaven.
Tok Guru should resign and retire.
To me Nik Aziz is not an ulamak and Pas nowadays are playing with their version of 'islam'....they just a plain typical politician. Halal or haram is just a game to them.
Well if you read the Holy Koran, read the parts related to these verses... all these verses come from the Holy Koran and have been contextualized correctly using the same or other Islamic resources. Did Pas people really hold and abide to the Holy Koran?

Do not confound truth with falsehood [Qur'an2/42]
When you voice an opinion, be just, even if it is against a relative [Qur'an6/152]
Do not participate in any paltry. If you pass near a futile play, then pass by with dignity [Qur'an25/72]
Do not verge upon any immodesty or lewdness whether surreptitious or overt [Qur'an6/151]
If, unintentionally, any misconduct occurs by you, then correct yourself expeditiously [Qur'an3/134]
Do not be contemptuous or arrogant with people [Qur'an31/18]
Do not walk haughtily or with conceit [Qur'an17/37, 31/18]

Do not follow blindly any information of which you have no direct knowledge. (Using your faculties of perception and conception) you must verify it for yourself. In the Court of your Lord, you will be held accountable for your hearing, sight, and the faculty of reasoning [Qur'an17/36]
The believers are but a single Brotherhood. Live like members of one family, brothers and sisters unto one another [Qur'an49/10]
Do not make mockery of others or ridicule others [Qur'an49/11]
Do not defame others [Qur'an49/11]

When you meet each other, offer good wishes and blessings for safety. One who conveys to you a message of safety and security and also when a courteous greeting is offered to you, meet it with a greeting still more courteous or (at least) of equal courtesy [Qur'an4/86]
Cooperate with one another in good deeds and do not cooperate with others in evil and bad matters [Qur'an5/2]
Do no try to impress people on account of self-proclaimed virtues [Qur'an53/32]

Sit not in the company of those who ridicule Divine Law unless they engage in some other conversation [Qur'an4/140]
.....Nik Aziz and Pas will do anything to defend their version of 'islam', even lie or twist the truth about things...read the Holy Koran and you be the judge.
