One more vote for Dr M being made senior minister

KUALA LUMPUR: The suggestion to appoint Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as a senior minister, if accepted, would enable the former prime minister to state his views directly to the Cabinet, Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin said.
“I believe the people will support this, except of course the Opposition,“ he told reporters on Wednesday.
He was asked to comment on the call by Risda chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik Tuesday that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak consider appointing Dr Mahathir as a senior minister in the Cabinet.
Abdul Rahim said that although retired, Dr Mahathir was still an influential figure and had been receiving invitations to talk at many international forums.
Lajim said it was up to the Prime Minister to consider the proposal.
Dr Mahathir, who led Malaysia for 22 years until his retirement in October 2003, is now penning his thoughts at his blog. -- Bernama

tunku : i don't think Tun Dr Mahathir is keen to be a senior minister.if he wanted to be one he had been as a senior minister just after he stepped down as pm.he told several times that he is not interested in any official post but if the government needs his help/opinion he's willing to contribute at any time.what the government should do is to set up a think tank which includes Tun Dr Mahathir and other retired senior top government officers, economist, academicians, businessman etc to assist in giving ideas/thoughts/plans/advice etc to the government.they have plenty of valuable experiences that government needs.that will be the best medium for Tun Dr Mahathir to give his ideas and also advice.

saya adalah peminat TDM tapi saya tidak brsetuju sekiranaya TDM dilantik mnjadi senior minister ini krana apabila beliau berstatus minister beliau tidak lagi bebas utk brsuara krana trikat dgn kabinet/kerajaan, tidak semestinya semua yg dilakukan olih kerajaan menepati citarasa orang umno ,tetapi sbgai sebuah pertubuhan melayu yg dominan orang melayu tidak mmpunyai pilihan lain. unperfectstone53

No need for Dr M to become a senior minister, he's not a person who walk around trying to show people what he can do eventhough he got the capacity of doing so unlike Anwar, this moron will show the world he can be the prime minister, he can be the ulamak, he can be the economic advisor, he's the champion among the rakyat...on & on & on....BUT the only thing he can't do is to fsce SAIFUL in court...he's dreaming carrying the globe on his back yet he can't even carry his own balls....sigh!

It is better to have the 'think tank' you just mentioned rather than the 'level 4 boys' (repeat boys).

They MUST replace those young chikus

I totally agree with you that what we really need now is a high-profile think-tank which can help the PM or the govt in an advisory capacity.

To include Tun M in this group of experienced and revered personnel is indeed a refreshing thought , something which those in the Cabinet should take time to ponder and expediate almost immediately. The sooner the better !

As a PM, DS Najib has his hands full of responsibilities which he must tackle and solve. Sometimes he cannot decide alone ; he needs members of his cabinet to help. Sometimes of course, professionals outside of the Cabinet partakes in formulating strategies and decisions. This is where people like Dr M can come into the picture.

Admittedly, what the PM DOES NOT need is a group like the infamous 4th Floor boys or such similar groups or person !!! If we had recognised the bad influence and the damages they had inflicted upon the previous administration, then all the more such individuals should be sidetracked from the outset ! The PM needs our support and understanding ; we must give him this !

Lately there seems to be a kind of a resurgence of the mob's influence. It could be a false perception but if it isn't, we are going to be in trouble again !
