Musa Will Increase Anti-crime Efforts Including On Anti-human Trafficking

PETALING JAYA, Sept 3 (Bernama) -- Tan Sri Musa Hassan, whose contract was extended for another year as the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), said he will increase efforts to fight crime, especially related to armed gangsterism, human trafficking and drugs.
Musa, who thanked Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein for their confidence in him, said orders had already gone out to all police personnel to increase efforts and to focus on having intensive operation to battle crime.
He will also enhance the quality of service by the police in line with the era of globalisation to fight crime in a borderless world, especially for new types of crime.
Organisational structure would also be renewed by entrenching service and integrity and he hoped that the people would support and cooperate with the police to ensure the country's security, Musa told reporters waiting at his Bukit Gasing home here to get his reaction to the extension of contract.
Home Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Mahmood Adam Thursday announced the extension till Sept 12 next year after the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin had consented to it on the advice of Najib.
Musa said he will also give attention to the implementation of the police force's five-year strategic plans, enhancement of the force's telecommunications system and new intake of officers and other ranks.
He said the police force needed to improve on its communication system with new assets and getting new and sophisticated technology to monitor crime and hoped the government would support those efforts.
He said with these orders and date can be issued faster.
On the force's manpower, Musa said although 14,000 officers and other ranks had been taken in the amount needed to be increased but that the force faced constraints in terms of capacity and training centres that were short.
On the review of the Internal Security Act (ISA), he said the act could not repealed as the country needed it to ensure the nation was not threatened from inside and outside the country.

Salam Tan Sri and congratulations. May the 'one year lease' entrusted upon your goodself bring forth results in the changes and reformation that you had started and need more time to complete ! Law-abiding citizens support PDRM and your leadership , plus the numerous number of competent officers, right from the top to the ordinary constable.

There are of course dissidents who will disavow your selfless sacrifice in upholding the laws of the country and also the good name and honour of PDRM. Their actions are to be expected of them for they care not of the nation's well being , the stability and the harmonious way of life, built and nourished over almost a decade.

We wish to see PDRM firm but righteous and compassionate in their actions.

All the best Tan Sri.

Serindik Desa.
