Malaysia-Indonesia to meet over ‘vigilante squads’

PETALING JAYA: Foreign Minister Datuk Anifah Aman is meeting his Indonesian counterpart Hasan Wirajuda next Thursday following reports of “vigilante squads” and rising anger among some groups in Indonesia.
The meeting in Jakarta takes place after newspapers reported that a group of Indonesians threatened to use sharpened bamboo on Malaysians using Jalan Diponegoro, a plush area in Menteng in the Indonesian capital.
Anifah told The Star that the Cabinet discussed the matter Wednesday and he was directed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to handle the matter.
“When I meet my Indonesian counterpart, I will express Malaysia’s concern and want assurance that the Indonesian authorities can guarantee the safety of Malaysians over there,” he said when contacted in Putrajaya.
Anifah said he would also summon the Indonesian ambassador to Malaysia, Da’i Bachtiar, to express Malaysia’s concern.
Some groups in Indonesians have been expressing their anger by demonstrating in front of the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta almost daily over the last few weeks. They pelted rotten eggs at the embassy building last week after Malaysia was accused of “stealing” the Balinese pendet dance in a promotion of Malaysia aired by the Discovery Channel.
The channel has apologised, saying it was at fault for using the dance in its promotional clip and that the Malaysian Government was not to blame.
Over the years, Kuala Lumpur has been accused many times of “stealing Indonesian culture,” includings its songs and dances.

tunku : over the years, we have been feeding them, we have been robbed by them, killed, raped etc by them on our soil.it is us who supposed to demonstrate against them.the vigilante squads wants to sweep Malaysian in indonesia which would hardly be by thousands but they forget that we can clean sweep by millions here in Malaysia.Kuala Lumpur must ask jakarta to act fast against those idiots squads before things can get worst.

Apa kata kita pulak buat macam tu kat warga indon??

Kenapa pak menteri perlu jaga hati INDON sedangkan KERAJAAN INDON sendiri tak pernah ambil tindakan apa-apa utk menghalang perkara itu??

Apa perlu rakyat Malaysia berDEMO menghalau orang indon disini??

Sebenarnya orang INDON disini (bukan semua) yg tidak pernah bersyukur mendapat rezeki di sini.

malang sekali KERAJAAN MALAYSIA terlalu berlembut dengan KERAJAAN INDONESIA..sepatutnya KERAJAAN MALAYSIA menuntut KERAJAAN INDONESIA memohon MAAF kerana TINDAKAN RAKYATnya kerana telah mencalar dan memburukkan IMEJ MALAYSIA..

tunku,
1. Muslims again want to act stupid. Just becuse the other sides are better off??? Please learn to be a good neighbour.
2. What on earth that these indonesians think???
3. Malaysians should think twice to travel to indonesia, to take indonesian maids, workers, and so on.
4. Otherwise, Malaysians should take care themself in their every day life.

Hi

REACT - of course we should, with anger, complain, request for apology by all means, but....

(1) They want RM800, ask for guarantee, "cabut Pak Indonesian Embassy tolong bayar balik" he talks a lot, wasn't there a report of kick-back at the embassy?

(2) If we catch any Indon coming back on a different passport, report take action, "isn't this human trafficking"

(3) Put Indonesia on travel watch list, advice Malaysian of what is happening, let their tourism ministry react.

(4) Put figures out, loud and clear, what Malaysian hospitality means in Ringgit, for the millions of Indonesia here.

(5) Stop giving excuses, a bunch of rowdy Indon are still Indonesian. No excuses, Indonesian govt should not play it down.

(6) Batik, hmmm, that a separate issue, then again... Indon batik, m'sain batik, thai batik...kalau kat malaysia, kalau orang malaysia bagi batik malaysia, pakailah pak2 delegate indonesian, kalau kat indonesia you bagi batik indonesia kita pakai lah. What a bunch of miss guided fools.

(7) Pak2 civil service malaysia (immigration, human resource, diplomatic) KPI - LEARN, please learn how other countries react on issues.

(8) Being neighborly, dosnt meant letting the neighbor's kid slap your kids all the time. beside the fathers complain, tell your kid time to stand up and slap back!
