Mukhriz Denies Pact With Khir Toyo In Bid To Helm Umno Youth

KUALA LUMPUR, April 18 (Bernama) -- Jerlun Member of Parliament (MP) Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir today denied that he had a pact with former Selangor menteri besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Khir Toyo in his (Mukhriz) bid for the post of Umno Youth chief at the Umno general assembly in December.
"I have never worked out any pact with Khir (in my bid to vie) for the post of Umno Youth chief," he told reporters after the retreat for Barisan Nasional (BN) MPs, here.
Both Mukhriz and Dr Mohd Khir have announced that they would contest for the post of Umno Youth chief in the party's elections in December after Umno Youth chief Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said he would not be defending the post.
Mukhriz also said that there had been no attempts to prevent him from meeting with heads of divisions and potential general assembly delegates in his quest to garner nominations to contest the post.
"So far, there have been no impediments. However, I do not know whether I can garner the necessary nominations to contest (the post)," he said.
Mukhriz said the retreat was held today to brief the BN MPs on parliamentary procedure. Parliament is scheduled to convene on April 29.
Meanwhile, Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin said the retreat was particularly helpful for the new BN MPs.
He said the MPs were briefed on procedure, discipline as well as issues expected to be raised during the forthcoming Dewan Rakyat sitting.

tunku : i don't think dr khir will pact with mukhriz.how will they pact, only one person can be the chief and for deputy they had passed the age limit.will there be sacrifices or it will be a fight between them ? the most important thing is to get nominated from the division, whether they will get the necessary nomination to contest.
