Umno state committees want party elections postponed to 2009

PUTRAJAYA: All state liaison committees who have met with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi over the weekend have unanimously agreed to call for the postponement of party elections until next year.
Umno information chief Tan Sri Muhammad Muhammad Taib said all the state liaison committees were unanimous in their proposal.
"They asked for party elections to be held next year because the period to postpone party polls will only run out by June 2009.
"So, there is still time. They feel that if elections are held now, it could prove disastrous for the party.
"However, the final decision will still have to be made by the Supreme Council, which will meet on Thursday," he told reporters Tuesday after accepting his duties at the Rural and Regional Development Ministry here.
Many of the state liaison committees, added Muhammad, also thought that efforts should be focused on reviving the party at the moment.
"However, the Umno general assembly will go on as planned this August," he said.
Muhammad, who is also the Selangor Umno liaison chief and the new Rural and Regional Development Minister, said Abdullah was also expected to go to Sabah soon to obtain the opinions of the state committees there.
"He wants to listen to their views himself," he said.

Umno polls to be postponed?
Umno may postpone its party elections to next year in order to avoid “havoc”. said its information chief Muhammad Muhd Taib.
Speaking at a press conference in his office at the Rural and Regional Development Ministry today, Muhammad said that there was a big possibility that this is happening.
“We have received feedbacks from the party leaders of all states and they asked that the party elections be postponed to next year,” he said.
He added that “almost all divisional and state leaders advised that the party elections be delayed for fear of creating havoc”.
When asked if it was because of Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah’s challenge to the party’s leadership post, the former Selangor menteri besar was evasive in his reply.
“Things are blur right now and people cannot see clearly. There is no space to make rational decision and when this happens, the outcome may be a regrettable one,” said Muhammad.
He said that the matter would be discussed at the party's supreme council meeting this Thursday.

But MCA branch election and assembly will be held on June 15; state on Sept 6; Wanita and Youth on Oct 17; and MCA AGM will be held on Oct 18. MCA lose more but they have the guts to meet the delegates and be counted for? What's is happening to UMNO right now... where's the Keris! Wheres's the semangat Melayu?UMNO! and where's the Melayu/UMNO that is strong and not afraid to meet the challenges?

Dia memang suka main "hide and seek" dari dulu lagi.. Tengoklah macam mana dia handle issues yang sensitive, pernah tengok dia betul2tampil diri dan cakap tak?

Yang dia selalu is biar orang lain yang sibuk2 or dia amanahkan dengan orang lain to handle... Biasalah tu, kalau dia orang tangguh2 meeting ni, I tak suprise langsung!

Pak Lah might as well suspend UMNO elections like gomen suspend local council elections way back in 1964. Pak Lah can cite turmoil in UMNO for banning UMNO elections this year in same way that gomen cited Indon confrontation in 1964. But Pak Lah is afraid of losing to Ku Li if he holds the UMNO elections now. I would agree with you, my dear Tunku, that Pak Lah is a coward. have a nice day
