Selangor seeking 51 PKR, DAP members to fill vacant councillor posts

With the PKR and DAP quota at Selangor local councils not fulfilled, those with relevant qualifications can soon apply to become councillors.

Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim assured current councillors would not be affected, with activists and professionals to take up the remaining seats, said the Selangor Mentri Besar in a statement.

The decision was made after a Selangor Economic Action Council (MTES) at the State Secretariat Building Thursday.

"The current councillors can remain if they are prepared to work under this state government.
"The state government wants to ensure the service at all local councils are in line with the development of the state," he said.

He added that the openings for the positions will be announced in major newspapers soon.

It was speculated that DAP and PKR councillors at local councils would be axed following the sacking of five Selangor executive councillors.

The five exco members are PKR's Dr Daroyah Alwi, Elizabeth Wong, DAP's Datuk Teng Chang Khim, Ean Yong Hian Wah and V. Ganabatirau.
