Najib: RM30mil allocation for NCR survey in Sarawak

The Government will provide RM30mil for the continuation of perimeter surveys of native customary rights (NCR) land in Sarawak for next year said the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

"I promise that for next year's Budget, the Federal Government will provide RM30mil more to continue the surveys," Najib said, speaking at Rumah Wilson Begat Bakir on Sunday.

"With the additional amount, we could continue to survey a lot more and finish what we started. The natives will have land. We honour our promises," he added, making the first of his three Gawai Dayak longhouse visits in rural Sarawak.

The state government presently recognises about 680,000 hectares of native land, however, only a small amount has been perimeter surveyed and gazetted.

According to Betong MP and Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Douglas Uggah Embas, presently, 320,000 hectares has been surveyed, of which about 152,000 hectares is gazetted.

Douglas said with more perimeter surveying efforts and other measures, the amount of native land could change.
It was Najib's first visit to Rumah Wilson Begat Bakir, which is one of the oldest surviving Belian wood longhouses. During his 20-minute speech.

"In the remainder of the 10th Malaysia Plan, and in the next (11th) Malaysia Plan, I promise Barisan Nasional will reward rural folks.

“You are the roots and pillars of Barisan. With the mandate given to Barisan in the 13th general election, the first step I took as Prime Minister was to appoint the most number of Sarawakian ministers and deputy ministers ever in Malaysia's cabinet."

Rumah Wilson Begat Bakir is childhood home of Betong MP and Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Douglas Uggah Embas.
