Political differences take ultimate toll on elderly couple

PASIR MAS: After 14 years of marriage, a couple here split up when the husband allegedly could no longer convince his wife to join his political party.
Yahya Ibrahim, 78, divorced religious teacher Che Hasnah Che Ahmad, 61, both of Kampung Chabang Tiga in Chetok, in the Lower Syariah Court yesterday.
She alleged that her husband had accused her of deviating from Islam for not supporting his party.
Che Hasnah, who claims to be a staunch supporter of Barisan Nasional, said her husband was an ardent follower of PAS.
Unhappy ending: Yahya leaving the Lower Syariah Court in Pasir Mas after divorcing his wife of 14 years.
She said that although he had for years tried to “convert” her to join PAS, the issue that broke the camel's back was when she atttended a ceramah by former PAS vice-president Datuk Dr Hasan Ali in Tanah Merah on June 11.
“I did not know I was attending the ceramah by Hasan Ali because I merely took a lift to the venue from a friend, who said there would be a lucky draw there,” she said, adding that Yahya had given her permission to attend the event.
Che Hasnah, who teaches the Quran to about 100 students, was formerly the Chabang Tiga Wanita Umno branch chief.
Before filing for divorce, he told me he no longer wants to live with me. - Che Hasnah Che Ahmad
She said Yahya had never questioned her support for Barisan until lately, when he travelled frequently to Kota Baru to attend PAS ceramah.
“Everytime he comes home, we would get into an argument. Before filing for divorce, he told me he no longer wants to live with me and would move to live with his children from his first marriage,” she told reporters outside the courthouse.
Earlier, after Yahya pronounced the divorce, Syariah judge Mohd Hafiz Daud ordered him to pay Che Hasnah RM200 for mutaah (a gift for the wife after divorce) and RM600 for edah (financial sustenance for three months before the annulment of marriage).
The media failed to interview Yahya, who successfully evaded reporters.

tunku : this is what pas preaches. their Islam is exclusively for them only. those who does not support their party they are not Muslim according to the teaching of certain pas leaders. it is them who are deviating from Islam. Muslims should stay away from pas.
