Indian groups fume over Selangor scholarships

KUALA LUMPUR: DAP elected representatives should be willing to accept constructive criticism from the public and address their weakness, former Hulu Selangor councillor K. A. Ramu said.
Speaking at a forum on discrimination against Indian students by the Selangor state government, he said the low number of study loans by the state government and the scholarships by Yayasan Selangor for Indian students was attributed to lack of information.
He said this should not be an excuse. “I envy MIC Youth as they are in Facebook and Twitter and information is disseminated to the community quickly,” he said.
Over 100 people attended the forum organised by MIC Youth and Indian-based organisations following the controversy that only four Indian students were given study loans by the state government last year.
There were only three Indians among the 1,571 who were given scholarships by Yayasan Selangor for 2008 and 2009.
Ramu said the state government should find out the reasons for not disbursing more study loans and scholarships to Indian students.
Wanita MIC CWC member M. Mohana said that nine out of 10 Indian students approached the party, to seek financial assistance to pursue their studies.
Malaysia Hindu Sangam former youth chief Arun Doraisamy suggested the formation of a research team to disseminate educational loan opportunities to Indian students.
Makkal Sakthi president R. Kannan called on the Selangot government to disseminate information on study loans and scholarships in all newspapers.
MIC youth secretary C. Sivarrajah said a memorandum would be handed to the Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim on Monday.

tunku : 2008 the promised moon and stars to the indian community and after the captured the state, what did the indians benefits from them?nothing. this is what you get when you elect a party that only knows how to oppose, how to create issues but don't know how to work and carry out their responsibilities.show them the way out comes the next election.

The Indian will have to wait ten years from 2008 before they see any change in the policy. You see in the affairs of the state any decision taken in 2008 will only show results in the year 2018.

So give PKR a chance.
