Kelantan wants its federal dept abolished too

KOTA BARU: Now that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has announced the abolition of the Federal Development Department (JPP) in Sabah, Kelantan is hoping for a similar consideration.
Local Government committee chairman Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan said the state welcomed Abdullah’s decision on Sabah, and wants the government to abolish Kelantan's JPP as well.
The JPP was established in Kelantan after Barisan Nasional was defeated by PAS in the 1990 general election.
The Federal Government should allocate development funds directly to state governments even if they were governed by the Opposition, Takiyuddin said.
"With direct funding, development can be carried out faster and in a more orderly fashion, unlike now where the JPP needs to oversee or approve any development project first," he said at the PCB Resort here.
While acknowledging that the Kelantan JPP had played a role in developing the state, he said it had resulted in overlapping duties and more bureaucracy.

tunku : i don't think the federal government would want to abolish it when kelantan is under opposition. may be pak lah will put this in the manifesto for 13th next general election, who knows.

To abolish the JPP and channel fund through the state governments of the day is the only way to respect the decision of the electorates.

What the Federal is doing to Kelantan for the last 18 years is unconstitutional. That actually is a form of discrimination by the Federal to the State government due to different in ideology.

What the Federal is doing is a duplication of time and energy and waste of money. The Federal should start to halt this kind of discrimination to the State government. What the Federal is doing no more than introducing double standard to the Rakyat of Kelantan.

The Federal also is in violation of human rights to the Rakyat of Kelantan. Indirectly the Federal is going against the spirit of the constitution by denying the State rights to govern as mandated by the Rakyat of Kelantan. The present government decided to abolish the Federal intervention in Sabah. It is about time the government do so to the Rakyat of Kelantan.

We would someday be rewarded by the Rakyat of Kelantan in a long run by fully complying to the constitution without the need to manipulate it to our short term benefits.

The Federal has been doing this kind of approach for the last 18 years yet Kelantan is still under the Pas ruling.

Let go back to the basic as guided by our Federal and State constitution and we would have a better chance to someday governing the State of Kelantan.
