Selangor's RM1-Mln Fund For Funeral Expenses For The Old, Disabled

The Selangor government Thursday launched a RM1-million fund to provide RM2,000 as funeral expenses for people aged 60 and above and the disabled of all races in the state.
The "Tabung Khairat Kematian Negeri Selangor" (Selangor Death Benevolent Fund), launched by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo, will be managed by the district offices of the state's nine districts.
The next-of-kin of the dead in the two categories could apply for the aid at the district offices, he said when launching the fund, here.
Those eligible for the aid are the next-of-kin of people aged 60 and above or the disabled who were Selangor citizens or who had lived in Selangor for at least 15 years.
The next-of-kin must submit the application form, which can be obtained from the district offices and the offices of elected representatives, and attach documents such as copies of the death certificate, identity card of the applicant and evidence of relationship with the dead person.
The application form must be endorsed by an authority such as a state assemblyman, penghulu, village headman, chairman the village development and security committee, mosque official or chairman of residents' committee.
Mohamad Khir said he wanted the district officer or chief assistant district officer (administration) to distribute the application forms and brief the community leaders on the procedure to apply for the aid.
"I hope the application and payment processes can be executed efficiently, swiftly and correctly," he said.
Mohamad Khir said it was hoped that the death benevolent fund could help ease the financial burden of the next-of-kin of these two categories of people in terms of their funeral expenses.
He also called on corporate bodies and private companies to join hands with the government in the noble effort.

tunku : another noble effort from selangor government. hope other states will follow the footstep of selangor.

noble effort? excuse me.

rm 1,000,000 / rm2,000 = 500.

since when selangor only has 500 citizens? This is not even a viable program to begin with.

only to further reveal how dump the state government is.
