Samy: Demolished temple issue resolved

KUALA LUMPUR: The issue of the Hindu temple in Shah Alam that was demolished has been resolved, with the Selangor state government allocating a plot of land for the temple’s relocation.
MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said the solution was reached after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi directed him and Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Khir Toyo to sit down and resolve the matter.
“Earth work for the temple relocation has begun,” Samy Vellu told newsmen at the Putra World Trade Centre on Wednesday after the presidential address at the Umno general assembly.
Samy Vellu, who is Works Minister, stressed that the MIC had never looked at the temple demolition issue as a religious problem but more as an administrative weakness.
“Only I as the president had voiced my view on the matter to the Prime Minister and Mentri Besar,” he said.
“I have spoken to the Prime Minister and I have told him that we will all celebrate Deepavali,” he said, adding that he would also attend the national-level Deepavali celebrations in Brickfields on Nov 11.

tunku : it's good that the issue had resolved, just to remind others that suraus and masjid too had been demolished before but there was no issue to it as we have to follow rules and regulations.so please don't make an issue out of it.no one will demolish surau/temple/church etc if they are build in private land or land that has been allocated to them.so mr samy, happy deepavali.

to tengku under the NEp plan every new housing project has to have a Masjid in it else the project will be rejected... what else surau to you want... demolition of temple kills the rukun negara that we preach but not practice.. as an indian i know its in the indian scripture to salute and respect the masjid as its the part to kiblat makkah... but is it vise versa..whereelse SAmy looking into this issue now is abit too late about 29 years late.. just because he is underfire he should call for justice.. let me state 1 thing here .. We have bloomed from estates a long time back.. move away and let the new generation take the lead..

rudraan,

under the NEP plan every new housing project has to have masjid or else the project will be rejected????from where did you get this or u just created the law yrself.
i have been involved with lots of housing development and 80% of it has no masjid or suraus. yes there is masjid/suraus if 70% of the residents are muslim that also if it is a big housing project(nothing less than 100 units.
