Gaza Humanitarian Aid Fund Receives RM10 Million

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 31 (Bernama) -- The Humanitarian Aid Fund to ease the sufferings of the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip as a result of the Israeli bombing raids has collected RM10.7 million since it was launched on Jan 15.
The fund's patron, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor said all donations from the public, corporate sector and philanthropists would be channelled to Wisma Putera for the Humanitarian Fund For Palestinians.
"We hope the proceeds from the fund can be distributed to the non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and voluntary bodies concerned in efforts to ease the sufferings of the war victims," she said at the Charity Night In The Name of Humanity at Istana Budaya, here tonight.
The function, organised with the cooperation of the Ministry of Unity, Culture, Arts and Heritage, was also attended by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin, Sultanah Kedah Tuanku Haminah Hamidun and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
Also present were Unity, Culture, Arts and Heritage Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim and Palestinian Ambassador to Malaysia Abdelaziz Aboughosh.
Rosmah said plans were also being drawn up to implement special aid projects in Gaza later.
"These projects include the rebuilding of hospitals and schools that were destroyed during the war. We would like to see that the innocent Palestinian children are looked after and given the opportunity to return to school," she said.
