Bukit Gantang Umno Must Respect BN Leadership's Decision

IPOH, Feb 12 (Bernama) -- Bukit Gantang Umno has the right to make suggestions but should not threaten the top party leadership who will decide on the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Bukit Gantang parliamentary by-election.
Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Senator T. Murugiah, who was also a former Youth Chief of the People's Progressive Party (PPP), said that like the other BN component parties, Umno must respect the decision of the top leadership.
He was commenting on the stand of the Bukit Gantang Umno division which wanted a local Umno representative to be the BN candidate for the Bukit Gantang by-election.
Yesterday, Bukit Gantang Umno head Datuk Rosli Husin stressed that his division would not compromise on its stand after having sacrificed for the past 23 years when it made way for other BN component parties to field their candidate.
The by-election is being held following the death of the Bukit Gantang member of parliament, Roslan Shaharum, from PAS who died on Monday after suffering a heart attack.
Commenting further, T.Murugiah, who hails from Trong, said PPP president Datuk M. Kayveas had appointed him as the PPP by-election director for the constituency.
"We will open three operations rooms in the Trong, Changkat Jering and Kuala Sepetang state constituencies (under the Bukit Gantang parliamentary constituency). We will mobilise more than 500 party members from throughout the state," he said.
In the last general election on March 8, Roslan beat BN candidate Datuk Seri Azim Mohd Zabidi, who is also Umno treasurer, and an independent candidate, M. Murganan, with a majority 1,566 votes.

tunku : yes, the bukit gantang umno must respect the BN's leadership's decision but the bn's leadership to must respect the bukit gantang's wish.the respect should be from both side.the candidate should be accepted by the voters there, that is the most important thing and as far as they are concern, they want a local person to represent them, not an outsider.
