PM: No point in open debate with Anwar

PUTRAJAYA: There is no point in having an open debate with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as it would not have an outcome, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said.
"If we want to have a debate, there must be an outcome. I don't see any outcome (in this debate challenge).
"What is important is the public's opinion and their evaluation," Najib said here Wednesday, when asked if he would take up Anwar's challenge to an open debate.
Instead, the Prime Minister said both Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat should present their respective economic policies for the people to evaluate and decide for themselves.
Anwar had challenged the Prime Minister to an open debate next week over his comments that Pakatan Rakyat's goals could lead the nation to bankruptcy.
Pakatan Rakyat said recently that if it formed the next federal government, it would reform critical institutions like the police, Election Commission, the Attorney-General's Chambers and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, and reward teachers with an additional RM500 monthly renumeration - all within 100 days.
Asked about Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin challenging Anwar to a debate on the economy, the Prime Minister said: "I will not stop him."
Khairy, on Tuesday, challenged Anwar to debate with him instead of the Prime Minister, saying that it was sufficent for the Opposition to engage in a debate with him as "Anwar was not at the same level with Najib."

tunku : there is actually no point to debate with anwar.we had seen before the petrol issue debate between him and shabery chik.there's no outcome.instead he used the stage to condemn the government.like the pm said, anwar should instead table it out their full action plan to fulfilled all their so called promises.they should present their respective economic policies for the people to evaluate and decide for themselves. after all who is anwar to debate with the pm? is he a party president? if he really wants to debate, he can debate with those who had challenged him to debate.
