Padang Serai PKR plunges into controversy over no-confidence move

GEORGE TOWN: Padang Serai MP N. Gobalakrishnan who has been in the news of late for criticising the PKR leadership is embroiled in yet another controversy - this time involving the Padang Serai PKR division which he heads.
Both he and division deputy chairman Johari Ismail are claiming they had convened a meeting with committee members at the same time.
Johari, who claimed Gobalakrishnan was lying, said he had convened a meeting with 15 other committee members to call for an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) to pass a vote of no confidence against Gobalakrishnan.
However, Gobalakrishnan claimed Johari did not have enough quorum to hold the meeting as he himself had chaired the division meeting with 18 committee members at the same time.
“Altogether, there are 15 elected and five appointed committee members plus the chairman, deputy, vice-chairman, secretary, treasurer and information chief,” said Gobalakrishnan.
“How can there be 16 committee members having a meeting at a hotel in Lunas from 5pm to 6.30pm when I am having the division meeting with 18 committee members at the division office here in Padang Serai at the same time?” he asked.
When told of what he had said, Johari claimed Gobalakrishnan was lying.
He also said that besides the committee members, about 150 members consisting of local councillors and community leaders had attended the meeting in Lunas.
Johari said the committee would inform the state party chairman and the secretary-general of the meeting, and the next step would be to call for an EGM within 14 days.
He said they also issued a statement clarifying that the division’s 4,000 members did not support or condone Gobalakrishnan’s actions
“Whatever he is doing now is based on a personal agenda, and does not involve the division,” he said, adding that the division’s members supported the central leadership and stood firm behind their leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Johari said those at the meeting also advised Gobalakrishnan, who had stated that he wanted to remain in the party, that he should resign from the party if he could not follow its policies or agree with its leadership.
“That is the most logical thing to do, in any organisation,” he said.
Gobalakrishnan had earlier in the day issued a press statement saying that certain leaders were trying to throw him out of the party of which he was a founding member in 1999.

tunku : gobala should realized by now that pkr doesn't need him now and what johari did was an order from the top leadership who wanted gobala to be ousted.as i had said earlier, gobala should join zaid ibrahim's party as his days are numbered in pkr.you go against anwar and azmin then you don't have any chance left in the party.the two lovers are untouchable.pkr is all about anwar and azmin, not the people.
