BN Supreme Council To Find Solution To Perak Crisis

KUALA LUMPUR, May 12 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak described the High Court decision on the Perak Menteri Besar issue Monday, which did not favour the Barisan Nasional (BN), as not the end of the road for the party.
Najib, who is also the Umno president, said this was because there was still room for the party to think of appropriate measures to tackle the problem.
"This is not the end of the road. There is still room to think of appropriate action. My colleagues in the Supreme Council (MT) and I will think deeply on what is the best for Umno and the BN that we love," he said at the 63rd Umno anniversary celebration at the Putra World Trade Centre, here Monday night.
He said the court decision was not the first upset for Umno because as a political party, it had gone through numerous challenges throughout its history including several court decisions that did not favour the party.
"In the history of Umno, we have been slapped with a court decision that banned the party, but we rose again with Umno Baru and I believe the same spirit must be with us (in facing the political crisis in Perak)," he said.
The Kuala Lumpur High Court on Monday declared Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin from the Opposition coalition as the legitimate Perak Menteri Besar as there had been no vacancy in the post and there was no vote of no-confidence passed against him at the State Assembly sitting.
Describing the Umno anniversary celebration, which should have been a joyous occasion, as rather lustreless following the court decision, Najib however was happy to see that the Merdeka Hall was filled with Umno and BN supporters including the presence of former Umno president and prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali.
"This is our family and on the strength of this family, we will will draw up our plans, we will not be disheartened. We know that we have to shoulder the people's trust and will not neglect the deeds contributed by the past leaders.
"They are hoping for us to continue the Umno struggle. InsyAllah, we will not only continue (the struggle), but take Umno to greater heights," he said.
Earlier, Najib and Umno members performed the Maghrib and Isyak prayers and read the 'Yaasin', before delivering his message followed by the cutting of the 'pulut kuning' or yellow glutinous rice in conjunction with the Umno anniversary.
Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, the three Umno vice-presidents Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, Datuk Seri Mohd Shafei Apdal and Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, heads of the Umno wings and leaders of the BN component parties.
Najib said Umno could not just rely on nostalgia and its past glory but must be bold to transform and be prepared to learn from past experience to enable it to be stronger and more successful.
Under the 1Malaysia concept, there would be transformation but they were nothing new because such changes had been carried out by past Umno leaders including the party's founder, the late Datuk Onn Jaafar who had opened the Umno membership to the other ethnic groups, but did not succeed at that time.
A similar concept was also introduced by the first prime minister Tunku Abdul Rahman through the formation of the Alliance, the second prime minister, Tun Abdul Razak enlarged the Alliance into Barisan Nasional (BN), Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had come up with the concept of the Malaysian Race while Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi had his national mission.
"Meanwhile, the 1Malaysia concept is based on the Constitution and the 'Rukun Negara' and realising that we are a nation of various races, Umno's success depends on the support of the Malays and the partners in the BN," he said, stressing that with the spirit of togetherness, the BN would gain new strength to face the challenges.
He said the people no longer wanted to listen to speeches which were merely rhetoric but wanted to see changes and achievements made in the interest of the country.

tunku : MAY BE bn should just let it go.let perak be under pakatan, after all they don't have the majority to pass anything.let them rule with minority, what can they do? we don't have to cry and shout, just do our best with the people.let see....

I agree with you, Tunku. Let Perak go. There is no point going to the court anymore. BN erred in the early procedure due to lack of wisdom. The case is very clear that there the whole episode did not favour BN right from the beginning. To all Malaysians, let this be a lesson. The constitution is supreme whether it favours a party or not. This has to be cherished in a democracy. Preserve this for the sake of a healthy Malaysia. We have seen enough chaos when democracy collapses in other countries. We love Malaysia and we want it to remain peace.

This is a typical problem with our young and ambitious UMNO leaders short term solution for a long term impact.

Whether we like it or not it is important for UMNO to still having our old guard to safe guard the party in making the decision like this.

Earlier power grab further damaging our trust with the majority of Perak people never the less if we appeal this decision.

Rakyat is looking at us again and their misconception right now is that we are worried to go back to Rakyat for a new mandate. Or is it true.

The last three months we have indirectly showing that we have sideline the Rakyat and trying to avoid from seeking the mandate from Rakyat. If we appeal it is more obvious that it is look like we are really worried to go back to the Rakyat for a fresh mandate.

It is also look like we are trying our best to avoid going back to Rakyat for a new mandate.

Are we really want to find real solution to Perak crisis. It is about time for our Perak leaders to tackle this issue head on and we do not need a rocket scientist to figure this one out.

I feel Kluang man is right, exhaust all avenues first. This can become a VERY valuable lesson for all. Let every sticky issues be dealt with and let it become a reference point for future generations to look back. It will be a very interesting showcase of political mastery as well as bring out the best in legal brains. I thought it was a gonner for BN but upon further reading of blogs (esp), there are options opened and I strongly believe Najib and Zambry are able to hold on to the ropes. At least from what I observe, Najib and Zambry are very cool about it, unlike the declared winner who has lots and lots of problems ahead of them. Even if HRH the Sultan decided to go to the people, Nizar may not be the MB ever again. And this time I sincerely believe the Malays will be out in droves supporting BN.. Once bitten twice shy, except for maybe a handful of hardcore group that will always be anti BN..

in political science, this is call ' unproductive '. In layman eyes, dependents on what newspaper they read, they will see no developement for their elected reps as they do nothing for the 1st year in office-power.
How many of the elected reps are political professionals? Many are just opportunists, power crazy.
The worst is POLICE, everytime they switch master and wondering...
