Anwar was anti-Chinese, says Keng Yaik
KUALA LUMPUR (March 3, 2008): Former Gerakan president Datuk Seri Dr Lim Keng Yaik says Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was anti-Chinese when he was an Umno minister for 12 years.
“I had a hard time while Anwar was youth and sports minister, education minister, finance minister and deputy prime minister,” he said in an address at a Chinese association dinner in Batu last night. Lim’s son, Si Pin, is the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for Batu.
“In 1984, when Anwar was the youth and sports mMinister, I, as the party president, was invited by China to a wushu competition and I planned to introduce our lion dance to China as an eye-opener,” Lim said.
“However, when I went to ask Anwar to send a team, he gave all sorts of excuses and rejected my proposal. Luckily, in 1988, I approached (former prime minister) Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad instead, and he approved it.
“When I was made a cabinet minister in 1986, he did the same to me at a ministerial meeting on amendments to the Education Act.
“I almost ‘vomited blood’ when I asked Anwar, who was then the education minister, to repeal a section under the Act, which allowed the minister to shut down a school and also to include vernacular schools under the protection of the Education Act.
“He again gave me all kinds of excuses and he sent his officer to talk to me in a ministerial meeting. Luckily, when (deputy prime minister) Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak became the education minister in 1990, he agreed to the amendments in the second meeting.”
Lim cited another example when Anwar was the finance minister during the 1997 economic crisis.
“Anwar wanted to employ the International Monetary Fund’s suggestion that restricted the country to spend and borrow money, so that all the money can be used to repay the international bank,” he said.
“Luckily, Mahathir managed to scrap his idea. Otherwise, Anwar would have brought the country to doom.”
Lim added: “Anwar is an excellent speaker. But he is not to be trusted as PKR is actually his tool to seek revenge on BN. DAP’s cooperation with PKR is actually worse than cooperating with PAS because ‘the devil you know is better than the devil you don’t know’.
“Initially, Anwar was a potential leader but after 12 years of observation, I can say that if you trust him, he will eat you alive. Do you think he will change after six years of imprisonment? He is now 60 years old, too late for any changes.”

Tunku,
I would agree with you in this instance. Lim Keng Yaik is desperate that Anwar is eroding Chinese support from his Gerakan as well as MCA. He is playing a dangerous racist card. Why don't Lim Keng Yaik equally condemn Najib, Jerai MP, Khairy, Nazri, Mahathir, Hishammuddin and many many more UMNO leaders who are indeed more racist? Anwar never raised keris against Chinese and tell them to go back to China, but Hishamudin and Jerai MP did
hisham has never raised the keris against chinese, dont make yr own conclusion.anwar is a dirty fellow, he was all out against chinese and indian when he was in the government.
next time know your facts first.the racist people of malaysia has always been dap and anwar.
Tunku,
How can you call only DAP racist and not PAS if your rationale is that DAP is a Chinese party, isn't PAS a Malay/Muslim party? Moreover, doesn't this make UMNO,MCA and MIC racist parties as well? And we all know what Hishamuddin meant when he raised the keris. Actions speak louder than words.
While I personally feel Anwar has a hidden agenda, that he wants power not for a united Malaysia but to get revenge against UMNO and retianed what he feel is his rightful place, his strategy of a Malaysia for Malaysians is brilliant. People flock to him for that. Maybe it's time for UMNO to step away from its Ketuanan Melayu and NEP policies, disband along with MIC and MCA and form ONE party, a party for Malaysians
while i am a pakatan supporter i agree with the fact that anwar is racist. if you were born in the 80s and later you were probably too young to realize the days of anwar and mahatir. he left for keadilan for very political reasons. not to mentioned he also almost sold the country out by dealing with the CIA. najib, hishammudin, khairy etc, they are the ones you see today. but do not forget that wolves sometimes hide among the sheep as well.
politics is a mosaic. there are sheep among wolves and wolves among sheep. BN is not all bad and Pakatan is not all good. just look at how many people of anwars supporters jumped ship. young generation need to do more reading before jumping in. good intentions but not very well informed. i would rather have PAS take over than Keadilan anyday.
again, from a pakatan man
