Abdullah Openly Hits Out At Anwar For Vacillating

pak lah:did you receive the passport which i sent thru my son in-law?
anwar: yes, very loving boy, i love him.

KEPALA BATAS, March 5 (Bernama) -- For the first time, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi openly hit out at Parti Keadilan Nasional adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for vacillating and making empty promises to the people.
He said Anwar was always criticising his administration and BN while he had brought nothing new when he was in government.
Sounding disappointed, Abdullah said he was forced to talk about Anwar as he found the former deputy prime minister to be going overboard with his criticisms against the BN government.
When launching the i-PINTAR (i-SMART) programme for rural schools at Sekolah Kebangsaan Hashim Awang here Tuesday, Abdullah said all this while, he did not like to talk bad of others, including opposition leaders, but because they went overboard in trying to deceive the people, he had to say his piece.
"They say all kinds of things about me. I can get annoyed too. Once in a while, I have to tell the real stories. We don't want the people to be taken in by promises that cannot materialise," he said.
Abdullah said he would reply to all the baseless accusations made by the opposition, particularly by Anwar, if he found it apt to do so.
He said when Anwar was Education Minister, he failed to fully implement the dual salary scheme for teachers after introducing it. "When he was the Education Minister, what did he do? If you don't believe, ask Hisham," he said, referring to current Education Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein who was present at the function.
He said at that time, the opportunities for promotion were limited, resulting in many teachers retiring at a rather low position, while those promoted would no longer be teaching but serving at the education departments or district education offices instead.
Abdullah said he was happy now that many plans had been implemented to improve the teaching profession by introducing specialist or super teachers and more opportunities for promotion until special grade D without having to give up the task of teaching.
Later when asked by reporters on a comment made by former PKR deputy president Dr Chandra Muzaffar that the country could be destroyed if Anwar was fated to lead, Abdullah said he agreed with the view.
"It can happen based on what he has been doing. Chandra is right," he added.
Abdullah also agreed with Gerakan adviser Datuk Seri Dr Lim Keng Yaik who regarded Anwar as a chameleon who could change according to the situation and place.
"This is true, from the reports I've received... he'd say like this in one place, and another thing at another place. Datuk Seri Dr Lim knows that he (Anwar) has been promising the Indians a lot of things. But what has he done for them all this while, including when he was in government."
Monday, at a forum in Kuala Lumpur, Chandra likened Anwar to a chameleon as he kept changing his image and stance, from a fighter in his university days to a nationalist while in Umno, but after being sacked from the party and jailed for a shameful offence, to being an active politician again to fish for votes through PKR led by his wife, Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
"I want to make this revelation as I do not want the people to continue to be deceived by Anwar's tactics," Chandra who is Just World president, had said.
He resigned from his post in PKR after realising that he was being used by Anwar for his own political interest.
Abdullah also hit out at opposition parties for making promises that were impossible to be fulfilled, to fish for votes.
"Those on the other side (opposition), promise to do this and that because they know they cannot form a government. So they are happily making promises to make people happy," he continued in his Penang dialect.
"Just look at Kelantan. PAS has ruled the state for 18 years but has done nothing. There's no good education programme, the state government owes the federal government RM1 billion and many of the youths have left the state to work elsewhere.
"That is why we have brought Kelantan into the East Coast Economic Corridor development programme so that there is progress in the state although some people disagreed.
"We don't like to talk bad about them (opposition) but they have provoked us into opening our mouths. If all the stories (of opposition's shortcomings) are revealed, they will have a tough time countering them," Abdullah said.
