Aceh Varsity To Award Honorary Doctorate To Dr Mahathir

JAKARTA, April 26 (Bernama) -- Syiah Kuala University (Unsyiah) in Banda Aceh will award an honorary doctorate to former Malaysian prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for his leadership and economic development concept, a university spokesman said.
The honour will be bestowed on Dr Mahathir at a function to be held at the university's Prof Dayan Dawood building on May 3, event co-promoter Dr Jasman J. Ma'ruf said.
Prof Dayan Dawood was a rector of the university who passed away several years ago.
Dr Jasman said the university decided to give the honorary doctorate to Dr Mahathir considering that he had laid the basic groundwork for Malaysia's economic development mission.
Until now, Malaysia was still adhering to this mission which showed the validity and strength of Dr Mahathir's concept, he said as quoted by Antara news agency.
Dr Mahathir, who helmed Malaysia for 22 years before stepping down in 2003, is scheduled to deliver a speech titled "Leadership and Economic Development" at the event, Dr Jasman added.
