Penang Brideg hoax not connected with unrest in Thailand

KUALA LUMPUR: The bomb scare at the Penang Bridge was a hoax and has nothing to do with the unrest in Southern Thailand or Indonesia said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
Najib, who is also Defence Minister, was asked whether there could be any connection between the incident with regional unrest.
“It is not possible to make such a connection. It was the work of irresponsible people and we should not overreact or it would encourage others to do the same,” he said.
“Bomb explosions regionally would have no effect on Malaysian security and bomb hoaxes do occur here from to time,” he told reporters at a press conference after attending a Conference of the Heads of Missions here on Thursday.
On Wednesday, police received a call that there was a bomb scare on the Penang Bridge.
Police closed the bridge and this resulted in a massive traffic jam lasting two and a half hours.
