Speeches By Individuals Do Not Reflect Party Stand, Says Najib
ALOR GAJAH, April 10 (Bernama) -- Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said today that speeches by "one or two individuals" do not reflect the Barisan Nasional's stand and cannot be used as a yardstick.
"It's not about one or two spokesmen. What's important is the BN policy and we set this policy through consensus with the other BN leaders," the deputy prime minister told reporters after presenting land titles to 93 second-generation settlers of Felda Tun Ghafar Menggong near here.
He was asked to comment on the DAP's airing of a video clip on the debate in the Dewan Rakyat showing, among others, a BN Member of Parliament suggesting that those who do not like living in Malaysia should leave.
The DAP had aired the clip as part of its campaign in the Machap state by-election besides distributing pamphlets on speeches made at the last Umno general assembly which it claimed smacked of racialism.
"We have chastised the Umno speakers and told them not to repeat such things. When we chastise, it means that we reject what they said because it is not in line with the party policy," Najib said.
Earlier, in his speech, Najib said the DAP was going around meeting the people to gain they sympathy by employing tactics that confused them.
He advised the people not to let emotions stray them from the two core issues, namely to pick a government that could ensure peace, security and harmony and vote in a candidate from a party and government that could ensure a more comfortable life for the people.
Najib also said that a by-election was not the time for the voters to express their disappointment over specific interests and trivial matters.
"These are not rational people. We cannot be emotional, we must use cool heads to better ensure our future," he said.
Najib hoped that the outstation voters would return to cast their votes on polling day on Thursday.
He also announced an allocation of RM935,000 for various infrastructure projects in Felda Tun Ghafar Menggong.
At another function, Najib said good racial ties were a prerequisite for the formation of a stable, peaceful and harmonious nation.
He said the relationship between the Malays and the Chinese in the country was not something new and had started during the time of the Melaka sultanate.
When Admiral Cheng Ho came from China, he came not to conquer the Malays but to extend the hand of friendship, Najib said when opening the Datuk Wira Poh Ah Tiam Recreational Park in Machap Baru near here.,
He said the history of Machap mosque which was built with contributions from the Chinese symbolised the good relations between the Malays and the Chinese while the history of Datuk Jailani Medik Machap, the founder of Kampung Machap, who had prayed for the safety of 50 Chinese from the Japanese soldiers reinforced this.
"That's why we, the Barisan Nasional, want to continue with this good tradition and it can be achieved through continuity of the voters choosing the BN candidate, Lai Meng Chong, in the Machap by-election on April 12," he said.
The park was named after Datuk Wira Poh Ah Tiam, the Melaka MCA chairman and Machap state assemblyman who died on March 15.
Located along the road across from Machap Baru, the park has walkways for pedestrians, picnic spots, a children's playground, reflexology area, futsal court and facilities for the disabled, among other things.

tunku : i see the parliament nowadays is like a circus or like a fun fair. The way certain MP acts in the parliament is like kids,cursing each others, insulting each others,asking each other to get out from malaysia, go back to your own state etc. this is not a good example for multiracial country.the MP should have a code of conduct, what they can say and what not.why don't let one person finish talking and the other talks.it is so sad having 3rd class MPs sitting in a 1st class parliament.argue issues with brain.
hope BN will set a good example as you know the opposition always try to instigate but like najib said what's important is the BN policy and the policy is set through consensus with the other BN leaders and we must have mutual respect with each others. as we knows dap is a very racial party, so let us not follow their footstep.
