Kerdau by-election: Syed Ibrahim is BN's candidate

KUALA KRAU: A special assistant to the Pahang Mentri Besar and Umno Kuala Krau vice chairman Syed Ibrahim Syed Ahmad has been picked as the Barisan Nasional candidate to contest the Kerdau by-election on March 6.
Deputy Umno president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin made the announcement in front of some 4,000 supporters who gathered at Dataran Seri Ketumbit, Kerdau here on Tuesday.
The by-election follows the death of the incumbent assemblyman, Barisan’s Datuk Zaharuddin Abu Kassim on Feb 12.
The Election Commission has set Feb 26 for nomination and March 6 for polling for Kerdau as well as Merlimau.
The name of the candidate for Merlimau will be announced Wednesday.
Syed Ahmad, 44, is a graduate of the Al-Azhar University with a major in Arabic and has served as Pahang Foundation assistant officer in Cairo, Egypt (1993-1996), an Arabic and religious teacher at SMK Agama Darul Naim, Kuala Krau (1997-2000), Jerantut district mosque supervisory officer (Nov-Dec 2000) and has been with the Mentri Besar's office since 2001.
Syed Ahmad, a local boy, is married to Sharifah Farunai Syed Ahmad and has three children.
