Penang stops double tracking project over flood concerns

PENANG: Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has issued a stop work order on MMC Gamuda JV's double-track project until the firm can guarantee that it will bear all cost arising from compensation due to floods.
The decision was made at the state exco meeting Friday following claims that the project in Kedah had worsened the flood situation there.
Lim said the stop work order would be lifted after the company provides a written guarantee that it would bear all costs resulting from losses due to flooding in Penang.
He said the state government also wanted Gamuda to dismantle the tracks that caused rain water to stagnate should flooding occur.

tunku : this guan eng is doing all his gangster act again.he keeps delaying the the double track project in penang. if he's sincere he should tell gamuda to take all the necessary action to avoid flooding caused by the project.the state government engineers can monitor the situation and make sure everything is in order.if gamuda do not follow the rules and procedures than only they take action.. the cause of flood can be because of something else not the project.the work should not be stopped.what a moron cm.

This double tracking is not going to improve the sevice cultue in KTMB. This narrow gague project should never have been considered and if we had to implemented it it should have been done 25 years ago.

Please take on the High Speed/ Medium Speed Rail from KL to Singapore. At least it will enhance property values in KL as did the Euro Star connection between Paris and London.

As for KTMB keep it as a single track operation and let them do KTMB Cargo business.
